Hey CD,

North Bay will be hosting it's first (ha ha) FRC Regional in 2014. In preparation and planning of the event, the Planning Committee has asked for our help.

On to my question, is there an UP TO DATE DJing Guide available for those who have no experience or have ever even been to a FIRST event?

I know one from about 6-7 years ago exists in the White Papers (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/1808), but I was looking for a 2013 edition, if one exists.

Thanks!

The only thing that needs to be known is there will be no playing of the Chicken Dance at any time.

These two files really helped me out this summer when I was djing at an event. It contains an up to date approved first songs list and also a list of song you can’t play.

That logo is magical.

And interestingly enough, I have heard plenty of the songs on the "Do Not Play" list. Generally though, the songs that I've heard are the ones that are huge, massive hits omnipresent on the radio(Domino, We Are Young, Party Rock Anthem, Starships, We Are Never Getting Back Together among others).

I think this might be what you are looking for:

The 2013 and 2012 song lists posted above are from that website. The guide is made by the DJ who does a bunch of the Ontario events. Generally I find his definition of what songs are "clean" for a FIRST event is pretty strict, and it isn't universally followed (I heard numerous do not play songs from his list at champs this year). That doesn't mean I think it is a bad thing though, as I believe the Ontario events have some of the best music in FIRST, and the fact that it is not all radio hits helps. Listening to some of the other events via webcast makes the Ontario events stand out by comparison.
