The 2014 Lone Star Regional will be it's 15th Anniversary. It's being held April 4-6th in it's regular home at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown, Houston.
We have 62 teams registered for the event and possibly more still on the waitlist. This may be one of the biggest events in its history.
We'll have at least 4 nations represented with teams from China, Australia, and Mexico joining teams from Arkansas, California, and Pennsylvania all coming to play with their new friends from Texas.
We have 7 rookie teams registered; 3 from Texas, 3 from China, and 1 from Mexico.
Since Lone Star is a Friday-Sunday event this year, it will be the last Regional of the year (New York City should be an hour ahead of us).
Who else is excited for Lone Star this year?

GRT had a great time at Lone Star last year. It is a shame that our home event SVR is at the same time.:( Lone Star is a class event that should not be missed.

We were upset that FRC scheduled Bayou and Lone Star on the same weekend as our State Mu Alpha Theta Convention (Math Club). :(
We have 62 teams registered for the event and possibly more still on the waitlist. This may be one of the biggest events in its history.
I'm excited to see how FIRST handles the regional spot shortage.
Two Fields at an event or a full Double Regional ?
This is the 1st time that only a handful of regional spots are available.

What, no love for 418? We won the Engineering Inspiration award at the Arkansas Regional, so we are also bringing a Wildcard spot to Lone Star. And we intend to give it to someone. ;)

I could not be more excited for a regional. This is going to be a great regional to end the season before CMP. I think it will be a good segue into the MAR and Michigan championships, serving as a preview of the competitiveness. Combined with how well the regional is run and the stellar venue as always, Lone Star is one for the books.

Looking at the teams generating available Wildcard Spots I can't help but speculate that most likely the Winners and Finalists will be 4 of the above Wildcard teams and therefore the only Wildcard pass-down would be the 3rd bot in the Finalist stack.
Who knows, anything is possible, especially if the old "Better to be lucky, than good" kicks in... BUT I sure do look forward to the District Model in Texas where the CHAMPS eligibility is spread out among more Tier 2 teams.
I have such respect and admiration for these Tier 1 teams and the performances they deliver year after year that as an FRC fan is awesome to consume.

57, the horse so dark it even takes itself by surprise... I'm hoping 57 will have a better showing at LSR with a much strengthened arm system and some software and coaching bugs worked out. But we'll just have to see come Friday, won't we?

You guys had a rough Alamo Regional (though congrats on your SF showing). What have you guys done to improve the robot since Alamo?

We fixed basically everything that wasn't fixed in Alamo....At least on our practice robot, that is. We have a solid plan to transfer those fixes to the competition robot on Friday morning. Our shooter is much improved, our ball intake is much improved, our drive train is much improved, our autonomous is much improved (as shown in the video above). We believe we always had a good design for our robot during build season, but 6 weeks just wasn't enough time to get all of our ducks in a row this year. During the time after Alamo, we have lined up all of our ducks and the mean, green Gatorzilla has chomped right through that line of tasty ducks and we cant wait for Lonestar!

Spectrum should be running the webcast on our youtube channel but that assumes the internet connection at the venue is reliable enough. I don't want to promise anything but we will for sure have all the matches recorded and uploaded each night at the minimum.
We are using the same setup they use in Michigan plus we are testing a way to add the FMS overlay and the ability to play recorded matches between matches.
I'm very hopeful it will all work out.

We have a 2-ball auto as well. But I'm not moving Disco up to Contenders... both our teams have a lot to prove still.
Here's a video of our prototype build up to our 2-ball auto.

I'm prepping for the regional, and I haven't been able to find good data from before 2002. Since we're celebrating the regional's 15th anniversary, I'd like to have complete data.
Does anyone know (winners, finalists, chairman's, EI, #1 seed, etc) for 2001 and 2000?
Since 2002 inclusive, there have been 48 blue banners given out by the LSR.
29 of those are represented by teams at the event this year
I have no context for that statistic
Wish I could be there this weekend! Lone Star will always be my "home regional" at heart. I can't believe it's been so long since my first FIRST regional at Lone Star, back when it still smelled like rodeo!
Good Luck to all the teams!

According to 364 (http://firstfusion364.com/static_site/achievements.html) they were Finalist in 2001 and Champions & RAS in 2000.
The Cheesy Poofs (http://www.team254.com/first/2000frc/) also came to Lone Star in 2000 and they walked away Champions and with the Defensive Strategy Award
148 (http://www.robowranglers148.com/awards.html) has some information for 2001. They were Champions and Innovation in Control winners.
After doing the google thing I remembered 358 has all the awards ever in an Excel file on this page (http://www.team358.org/files/frc_records/index.php). I cut out the 2000 and 2001 Lone Star awards and uploaded them below.

We took photos of most of the robots at the event and they are uploaded here (https://www.flickr.com/photos/spectrum3847/sets/72157643440852755/).
The event is also has two streams.
The official 118 webcast should be at the robotics.nasa.gov webcast page (http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/livestream/index.php?stream=ls_0403-0614)
Spectrum is also running an experimental full field only stream that should be on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59LwLamR2Ak. We are working on getting all the field sounds but it does have the score overlay.
Lone Star is stacking up to be an amazing event. There are a ton of good teams that will be facing off of the next two days.
The Lone Star regional is easily my favorite! Best of luck to all teams!

Have you got a URL for that NASA feed? The #2 feed on Blue Alliance has neither audio nor video, and the #1 feed (Spectrum's live YouTube) is now dead. I'll take sound over nothing!
[Edit] And sometimes teh googel comes through: Video only, no sound (http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/livestream/index.php?stream=ls_0403-0614) (If sponsor frames are running, they're between matches.)

Sorry for it going down. Yes it will be back we are going to put it on twitch. I didn't get notified of the take down till pretty late. It's a bit of an experiment for us and we are learning new stuff all time. I'll post a link in the morning when we have it up.
We are uploading archived matches right now to our channel.

We are running the stream off of a 4g connection so we aren't able to upload and stream at the same time like we had hoped.

So I just saw something totally wrong in Q-68 at Lone Star. Blue alliance had 2 robots, started with 3 balls. Red alliance had 2 robots in white, 1 robot in goalie zone, started with 3 balls. Which is obviously wrong, since you're supposed to only have a ball for each robot in the white zone, touching that team's robot.
So, if anyone at the even is reading this thread, perhaps you could inform the refs so they atleast get that right for elims?
Please read the manual.
G5
For ROBOTS starting in the white ZONE, the TEAM may preload one (1) of their ALLIANCE’s BALLS such that the BALL is touching their ROBOT.
For ROBOTS starting in their GOALIE ZONE the TEAM may decide if the BALL is: staged between the TRUSS and the ZONE LINE and not contacting an ALLIANCE partner, or removed from the FIELD for the MATCH.
If a ROBOT does not report to a MATCH, its ALLIANCE may decide if the BALL is: staged between the TRUSS and the ZONE LINE and not contacting an ALLIANCE partner, or removed from the FIELD for the MATCH.
