Yuck!

I have had pizza every day for the last two weeks. I am sure my veins are getting clogged.

I did try to get the students to eat some salad. NO WAY! Only the adults would eat that.

There must be another food of choice that students will eat that can be purchased as cheap as pizza.

Ideas?

A quick solution I found recently after I've gone to college is: just DON'T eat!!!

It save a lot of time and money, as well as a great way to avoid social situation where everyone is talking about non-robotics topic during lunch/dinner. The most important thing is, this method have no calories what so ever. I've been doing it for a while, and I can't be happier.

At our house, we have coined the phrase, "You kill it, you grill it." That is used on the nights that my mother doesn't have anything planned for diner because she has to go out. It usually entitles us all going and getting cereal for diner.:P but there is a rare occasion that my father will pull up venison steaks (that he shot hunting) and make them on the grill...

Those are the nights we love the most....mmmmmmm....steak........

This is a question in response to the strangely OT stuff that has been posted lately turned into an actual FIRST-related question!

So....I hear Josh craving pizza, Colleen raving about food from Mom, and Mike definetley sick of pizza (and it's only week 3!)...how do the rest of the teams provide sustenance to their hungry members?

I know on our team, we rely on a carefully set plan before Kickoff made by our Sustenance Coordinators (yes, trust me, we have two people on our team with that title, I had to make it on business cards for one of them because I refused to let her come to the Womens Forum without something to hand out).

They take a big piece of posterboard & create a make-shift calendar for the 6 weeks, and about 2 weeks before Kickoff adults can sign up with their name & phone number for any specific day. Luckily, we don't need to strain the parents too much because this year the local high-end supermarket has offered to cater each monday of the 6 weeks ;)

Since every year we take into account the fundraising that is done by each student, the adult that cooked that night can put that money towards a student....soo, everyone wins out. Parents can cook a meal for 50 people and then accredit that money to their child on the team, and the hungry robot team members have a variety of home-cooked meals each night. Plus, noone is taking time away from their work to figure out food each night ;)

Anyone, feel free to steal this idea. Now that we have perfected it, it works beautifully. Just be sure to call it the "Sie-H2O-Bot Sustenance System" ;)

All I know...

Is I wish that we had ppl soley in charge of providing us with free home cooked meals. Basically our shop was within walking distance from a pizza/sub joint and McDonald's so it was usally one for lunch and the other for dinner. I guess we never had enough parents who cared enough to consider cooking for us.

We have a similar system where parents come in every night and bring us free dinner, and also free lunch during weekends and holidays. We have a calendar online where parents log in and sign up for supervising, and along with signing up to bring food in for the entire 6-week period. Beside the refrigerator that usually stores our left over food, there is another cabinet where students can pay to have snacks during the day. We started this system ever since we found out the correlation between the amounts of food we have vs. time students willing to spend in GRT. So there are no worries about what to eat, or when to eat since parents take care of everything. And finally, this method eliminates unhealthy food because the parents have all the power in what food to bring.

Parents really contribute their time and effort to make sure the kids really have a great time working with the team, and I thank them deeply for that...

We mostly just order out for pizza (Mama's Pizza) and bill it to the sponsor... probably
unhealthy, but hey...whatever works... We get a discount on the pizza to because we are
affiliated with the school....

What's so bad about being strange? (you thought i would say OT didn't you? DIDN'T YOU?! yeh, that's what i thought.:) )

But seriously, we're engineers, not librarians, and i for one am not going to sit around being boring all day.

The general section IMHO should be used not only for FIRST related business (as it is a FIRST forum) but it should also be used as a chance for us to have fun and get to know eachother. We are, after all, striving toward the same goal, why not use this to our advantage and not only work on our engineering skills as well as our social skills (ok, so i'm still lagging in both areas....shoot me why don't ya).

Yes i'm proud to be one of the 419 ninnies with powertools, and yes, we do pots a lot here. I joined this year and that's the first thing anton told me to do, he said, "GO HERE, and pots a lot so that we can meet people from other teams and interact with them, make some new friends." So i do, and i have fun doing it, and it helps me clear my head when i'm thinking too hard and i start to smell something burning...

That is the reason for my OT pots at least, and also the reason for the strange and somewhat confusing links i put on the page, so that i am not completely turned into social vegetables and can have a little fun with this outside the technical content. And in the process, i hope i give a few other people a laugh while i'm at it.

by now you've been reading and thinking, "this guy is a jerk" or "is he serious?" or maybe even, "he's overreacting". If you think i'm overreacting, then i'm sorry, but i do tend to get a little sickened when i see pots that say "I skip lunch because then i don't have to be with kids who talk about non-first topics" (paraphrased of course). and i would hope that at least a few of you feel it too...

Sorry this was so long, i don't think it will happen again, it gave me a headache writing this much...:)

Woah, Josh, now, I dont think you're a jerk or overreacting, and I know youre serious. And I am the last person to be calling people strange or prejeudicing because they are strange. (if you've ever met me, you would know)...

But. Everyone at one point has a valid question (or two, or a dozen ;) ) to post on the forum, and it should be answered. But, with totally OT posts that look serious, people are going to skip over your posts and glean out the stuff they know is serious, and read only those. Its human nature.

So, what happens when you have something serious to say?

I agree that this forum should be used to get to know eachother, but it should totally be on a FIRST-related basis. And using that as a basis, we are growing stronger bonds with eachother. There is one thing that ties all of us together: we are passionate enough about FIRST to spend hours in front of a computer reading posts and answering questions for people.

I like the links, the links show character, and I am now way trying to curtail anything that you do (trust me, I've been in your shoes, last month I was yelled at by the principal for making the morning announcements too "personal" and "informal", even though I was reading them word for word).

Papa Gino's has such incompetent employees. It also takes them 15 minutes to prepare a pizza. So the heck with them. On the other hand, if they want to give us free food and exchange that for a logo on our robot, i'll take it.
