View Full Version : FIRST car decals
I was just wondering if anybody saw these car decals? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261360310549?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
He seems to have others on his store too. Finally something for us to put on our car, that isn't the "Honor Student" bumper sticker!

The seller appears to be committing copyright infringement, but that's a different issue altogether.

I recall getting a nice car window decal that says
FIRST
VOLUNTEER
www.usfirst.org
at the Championship, one recent year.
It also has the FIRST logo. I think the decal was given to all CMP volunteers.
And I am pretty sure Don is right, the decal linked by the OP does not appear to conform to FIRST's standards (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/marketing-tools/brand).

Agreed. It's a nice thought though. I'd love to have a Official FIRST decal.

Volunteer decals were mailed out to all volunteers several years ago. They look nothing like the ones on eBay though.

The seller is the person who made the thread. :-p

I have one on my fork truck.
I need another one for my car.

Really? That takes the shine off the idea entirely, since that's not how it was presented. How do you know? I'm curious.

If I was the one selling these decals, wouldn't I make sure I advertise like others on this thread!!!

We do not KNOW, but here is some evidence: The seller is from Pinellas Park, Florida. tedbell is from Florida. This was tedbell's first post, since he joined December 2013, but his rookie year is "2000" and he is not associated with any team. And would he put an "honor student" bumper sticker on his car, if he was a freshman in 2000 (making him around 30 years old...)?
No, certainly not proof, but circumstantial evidence. YMTC.

Since your location is listed as Florida and the shipping location on the ebay item is Florida, Alex is making a pretty good assumption.
I have sent an email to Frank with the ebay link. They need to be made aware of this as things like this that go unspoken only hurt the teams that do ask permission to fundraise for their teams with the FIRST logo.

may I suggest this thread be locked and deleted. The purpose of the thread is complete. Leaving it open only advertises an item the violates FIRST's Copyright.
Not that I condone the use of images and resources one does not have legal right to, I do find it funny that people seem to care a lot more about a FRC logo up for sale just because it is from FIRST, when this kinda of 'Trademark infringement' happens all over the place on the internet.

That's the point and issue. Just because you see it everywhere online, doesn't mean that's the only way. There are honest people who do honest work. I see it all time and shake my head. I am in a field where out of 10 people, you'd have at least one person cheating the system and ruins it for the other 9.

Glad you did that! For the sake of using the right channels in the future- anything regarding FIRST branding should be sent to marketing@usfirst.org rather than FRC staff. (I've already done so for this listing, including sending them the ChiefDelphi thread.)
This includes asking for PERMISSION to use the logo outside of the given branding standards (Easily accessible on usfirst.org - About Us>>Branding Standards), whether it's for sale or not.

FIRST obviously means a lot to the people on this forum. Also, the FIRST logo is a work of art done by someone (specifically, Jack Kamen - Dean's father.) That topic has been discussed many times on Chief, especially during the LogoMotion season. (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1008311) I think it's really nice that people are popping up to defend FIRST, as Chief is not a place where FIRST staff does that on their own.
Good going, FIRST community. :)

I agree with the fact that the evidence point toward the fact that you are the one selling these. I do think it is nice to have the ability to get FIRST stickers, but the fact that it is going and hurting FIRST ideals (something that I believe all FIRST-loving people try to stand by). If you want to sell something, do it the right way.
GREAT JOB JIMMY!!

It's all fun and games until someone losses an eye...
I was destined to be a millionaire... Until I took a copyright violation to the knee on Chiefdelphi

I would have done that if I had the email handy, but I didn't so I sent a quick note to Frank knowing he would be able to forward it to right folks.
Thanks!
