It's going to be a power base game centering on defensive strategies. Maybe a capture the flag type of game with ramps
Maybe a capture a certain area type of game like there are obstacles and one main checkpoint in the middle of the field and which ever team can hold that checkpoint the longest wins that match

I hope you're right. Capture the flag would be a very fun game. Any other predictions?

Yes.
When I talk to non-robotics people about what we do, here's how I sum it up. Last year, we built a robot that played ultimate frisbee, with a twist. The year before, our robot played basketball, with a twist. And so on.
This year, I think I will be saying that our robot plays hockey. The twist might be that it uses a large (3' diameter?) ball instead of a puck. We will need to cooperate and pass frequently in order to score maximum points.
It will continue to follow the trend of making the game sports-based and spectator-friendly. Scoring will be simple and easy to keep track of for most spectators (not predicting that the score-tracking devices will always work, though).
That's my prediction.

I feel like it would probably be a smaller ball than 3'. That would be somewhat hard to pass/manage. Plus the goal would have to be rather large.

I feel like this would make it hard to incorporate (effectively) a certain element of teamwork. In sports that use one, singular ball - like basketball, football, hockey, etc. - teams use plays to organize teamwork in their team. If we were to have one game object this would mean that each robot on an alliance would be a "team member" and would have to cooperate with the other robots on a scale that I've never seen before in FRC, "plays." Having one game piece would make it hard to use teamwork without "plays" which would require that each alliance member know these plays by heart as a NFL, NBA, or NHL player does.
I think maybe having hockey-style game but with multiple game pieces would be a more viable guess, kind of like we had with Rebound Rumble.
Just my two cents! Have a great season!

You were off by a foot on the ball diameter. ;)
Otherwise you nailed it. WOW!

Saying he nailed it implies that this game is spectator friendly...

Which it is not, in the slightest. These assist points are confusing, even for actual competitors, let alone walk in spectators. The Truss, catch, and scores are easy to keep track of. However with all the hot-panel and assist rules, this is going to be one of the most boring and confusing challenges to date. It would be ten fold more interesting if the ball size was increased.
