We're wondering if, while holding it, the ball can be above the 5 foot limit. We can't find any rule that addresses this.

I don't think it would be against the rules as long as the robot itself is under 5ft.

I can't remember any rules making that illegal

We're wondering if, while holding it, the ball can be above the 5 foot limit. We can't find any rule that addresses this.

If a ROBOT is not in contact with the carpet in its GOALIE ZONE, its height (as defined in relation to the FIELD) must not exceed 5 ft.

ROBOT: an electromechanical assembly built by an FRC Team to perform specific tasks when competing in AERIAL ASSISTSM. It includes all of the basic systems required to be an active participant in the game : power, communications, control, mobility, and actuation. The implementation must obviously follow a design approach intended to play AERIAL ASSISTSM (e.g. a box of unassembled parts placed on the FIELD or a ROBOT designed to play a different game would not satisfy this definition).

The ball is not part of the ROBOT and therefore not considered part of the height limit.

I agree the ball is not part of the 5 foot robot, however, if the ball made the height more than 5'2" you won't be able to fit under the truss.
