View Full Version : AndyMark in Indiana State of Emergency

Andy Baker just announced on the Robot in 3 Days stream that AndyMark is affected by Indiana's State of Emergency (http://wgntv.com/2014/01/05/state-of-emergency-declared-in-parts-of-indiana/). This means that AndyMark is unable to ship orders for the time being because traveling is prohibited. This may be a huge issue for orders that have been placed recently.

Team AndyMark from Robot in 3 Days will be pausing and possibly canceling their building process to box orders. For now, they are the only people that are inside the building.

In my opinion, a class act move by AndyMark. Stay safe and warm!

This is a truly gracious move of them. They could have easily just continued with their Ri3D and delayed FIRST Choice and all orders further. Good on them for making this decision.

Matt,

Thanks for starting this thread. While there is about a foot of snow on the ground and the temp. is going south of zero tomorrow, the Robot in 3 Days crew of 8 folks here at AndyMark will be stopping our build process at midnight tonight. We figured that it was more important to our customers that we pack their FIRST Choice and AndyMark orders instead of finishing our Robot in 3 Days effort.

Tomorrow, while our operations staff can't travel to work, we will be packing orders and answering calls. So, things will still be operational around here, as boxes will be packed and then shipped out as soon as FedEx can start their process.

Thankfully, for the FRC teams, the 8 of us were here when this storm hit so that we can take the place of our operations folks tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Andy Baker

Stay safe and thanks for continuing to package all of the packages!

Hopefully it doesn't get as cold down there as Minnesota tonight!

Stay safe - same goes for all the teams working or not able to work in areas impacted by the weather.

And as a mom, have to say "dress for the weather!"

Andy,

Once again, a huge thank you to you, and to all of the people at AndyMark for all you do for the FIRST community. It is awesome coincidence that you were all there, and shows what an awesome company AndyMark is, that you are all going to be the ones packing and shipping the products to us all. Once again to everyone in Indiana, stay warm, and stay safe!

Jon

A big thanks to your crew! Are you guys going to pick up where you left off after the storm is over and the regular operations folks can make it back in? I think we all want to see your robot completed, even if it isn't done in a linear 72 hours!

I was watching the Packers game tonight (funny cause i'm in AZ), and I can tell it is cold outside, especially with the exhaust that came out of the players' mouths when they breathed :D :(

I really want to see videos on the Ri3D youtube page that are just the Andymark team packing boxes. Mabey even try to convince everyone that you are some how working on your robot by packing boxes.;)

Exhaust! Football players confirmed to be robots not humans.

That would depend on when FedEx can pick them up again, which depends on when the State of Emergency is lifted, which depends on the road conditions, which depends on the weather.

In the meantime, maybe I'll call the AndyMark number tomorrow, I wonder who's going to draw the short straw to have to answer phones

AndyMark, we can't show our appreciation enough. A huge thank you to Andy Baker and his staff, and please be safe. This is true Gracious Professionalism, and an excellent example for all of us to take after.

Not that this actually matters but that game is in Wisconsin, not quite Indiana. But anyways, this is great news. AndyMark is a class act and this just proves it. I'd love to see you guys finish your robot once the storm clears out and you're able to get other people into work.

Stay safe and stay warm. My parents were describing how bad it is in Kokomo.

Things are really bad here. This is the worst storm in Indiana since FIRST started. I doubt if FedEx resumes regular operations before Wednesday, even if they pick up Tuesday.

I have a lot of great friends in the "Snowball 8" in Kokomo and I wish you all the best. If you run out of food you can go raid the meat market and cook up a feast.

At least its not an ice storm like Toronto had in december! Imagine having 3/4" of sheet ice on everything, and over 300'000 people out of power. Hey, at least Nick should know how to deal with the snow.

Hope everyone is safe. Thanks for putting your customers first.

If we really want to thank Andymark and the crew for taking care of us, why don't we hold off on the calls and bugging them on when they will be shipping. It's totally out of their hands and as good as they are, they can't foresee what this weather and in turn the local authorities will allow. Give 'em a break!

Even though I am in Michigan, we are getting hit as hard; the worst since '78.

Well the bright side is that our AndyMark order stuff can wait. Not going to effect us that much. Thank god Vex is in Texas.

Every year my wife complains about being a FIRST widow for 4 months.

I can't imagine how that would translate to actually running a business trying to deliver to all us crazy people.

Thanks for your dedication Andy.

I dunno. I'm kinda torn on this one.

I feel like its great that these guys are willing to put aside their Ri3D effort to pick up the slack left behind by the Operations guys stuck at home due to the weather/state of emergency.

By the same token, if it truly is as bad as they're saying, and its unlikely that FedEx will be able to pick up our orders from AndyMark until Wednesday or Thursday, they probably could have finished the Ri3D effort and still had time to box things up.

The first week of build season is crazy busy there. If they didn't keep up with packing they would be buried in orders by the time the opps folks get in tomorrow. It would be way to hard to catch back up and they would be behind for the next two weeks.

Lunch with Andy has returned for a second season (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=124185)! Sounds like the State of Emergency was lifted a little after noon local time, their Robot in Three Days team members got around 250 orders packed, and they're hoping that FedEx will resume picking up tomorrow!

The problem is that other AndyMark employees who normally do packing stuff weren't able to get to work this morning.

Did you miss the part where I totally acknowledged that?

Sounds like things are getting cleaned up a bit quicker than expected though, so I'd say its a good thing they elected to go this route.

Wow, what a noble thing to do, hopefully everyone is safe and warm. Also, I'd be interested in seeing you guys finish your robot, once things are back to normal, even if it wasn't a consequtive 72 hours.

We had a good day today. Two of our key operations staff made it in today after noon, which helped us get over 400 orders packed and labelled, ready for FedEx to pick up.

We have heard that FedEx will try to pick up packages tomorrow (Tuesday) but we are not sure about this yet. My guess is that they will be picking up and shipping out by Wednesday at the latest.

Tomorrow morning, if we have enough operations staff available to pack and ship orders, the AndyMark Robot in 3 Days team will be focusing on communicating our design, showing how we designed a CAM-driven catapult, intake arm, and integrated Sonic Shifters into an AM14U. We will aim at releasing CAD and LabVIEW software once we get things buttoned up tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Andy Baker

A very great move that I'm sure a ton of teams appreciate.

We're glad that our Replicator2 shipped last thursday before the storm hit! Getting it tomorrow! :)

Anyways, stay safe, I'm glad the storm is winding down.

Good news today!

This morning, FedEx picked up the orders we packed yesterday, and they are making more pickups today. After noon today, we are at full operations staff and things are rolling smoothly.

Is anyone else not receiving FIRSTCHOICE shipments in a timely manner? Our order was processed on the 6th of January and still nothing here. However, other AM orders placed this week (monday) are already in our shop...

Anyone else?

We completed our order at about 4:30pm on January 4th, and it shipped out on Thursday, Jan 9th.
A regular order I placed on January 6th got shipped on Friday, Jan 10th.

I suggest logging into FIRST Choice, going to your orders page, and refreshing it. I had to do that to get any shipment information to show up. Then you'll at least be able to track the package -- assuming it's shipped.
