One of my favorite Woody Flowers talks was one where he explains the design process as like a triangle where you begin at the large end with lots of ideas from every where and as time goes on you must narrow the scope and focus on the ideas you have chosen to pursue. I have searched but cannot find a video. Does anyone know where I can?

Also, I would love to hear what other quotes people have enjoyed from this wise man.

Woodie once made a comment about Set Screws. He said they inhale audibly. In other words...they suck.

Woodie always says something great during his speeches. I hope that people are really listening - I know sometimes, students can tune out.

During the FIRST founder's reception, he said something great about the culture we're in. It was not a recorded event, but I'll do what I can to do his words justice.

Woodie spoke briefly about where he grew up - around the same place as the Duck Dynasty guys. He knew one of them. They went to the same university. On the show, this man is pretending to be dumb for views and money. What does that say about our culture? How does being intentionally ignorant help teach our kids? Instead of Duck Dynasty, we need FIRST Dynasty. Show the world how doors open when you apply yourself to something you're passionate about. Put smart people on a stage and let them be celebrated, and let kids look up to that. That's what we're really going for here.

...Something like that.

P.S. If you're going to quote him -- please spell his name correctly. W-o-o-d-i-e.

^ There's some good background as well, in case you didn't know his story outside of FIRST.

My wife was talking to Margarite (sp.), Woodie's wife, after the speakers were done. She actually did the research after watching an episode of Duck Dynasty. The family patriarch did go to Louisana Tech with Woodie and holds a PhD in Mech E. So he "ain't dumb." He just "sold out" to make the big bucks by acting dumb instead of promoting the values of hard work, ethics and GP.

Woodie gave a speech at the 2013 Denver Regional about the difference between FIRST and school. He said that school offers "training", where we sit in a classroom and listen to someone talk. FIRST, meanwhile, offers "education", where we learn by doing.

Coincidentally, Woodie was followed up by a humanoid robot dancing Gangham style.:yikes:
