We plan to use vision for auton mode and we need to get the correct lights to target the hot goal. I looked up the same lights that are used in the competition, but they are way too expensive for our team. What lights are a good substitute as well as cheap that we can use on a mock-up goal to test vision?

Sorry this doesn't answer your question but what made you guys choose to track the lights over the retroflective target? The lights seem more for the audience than for tracking.

The high goal doesn't have reflective tape. We want to track the high goal in auton for more points.

The high goal is large and will never move. You really should only need vision tracking to detect when a goal is the Hot Goal in autonomous.

There is an arrangement of retro-reflective tape indicating the HOT goal (both low and high). Like BigJ said, the HIGH goal is enormous.

You don't need to track the goal itself. Just which side is "hot" based on if the vision target on that side is showing.

VISION TARGET: a retro-reflective object, made of 3M 8830 Silver Marking Film, that may be used by ROBOTS to sense FIELD elements.

We don't want to know where the goal is. We want to know which goal is hot.

We don't want to know where the goal is. We want to know which goal is hot.

What they are trying to say is that the VISION TARGET dictates which goal is HOT during AUTO and may be easier to track than the lights which surround the goal:

"HOT: the condition of a goal during AUTO, as determined by the FMS, in which it is worth more than a non-HOT GOAL. The state of a HOT GOAL is identified with yellow perimeter lighting and via the corresponding VISION TARGET."

"VISION TARGET: a retro-reflective object, made of 3M 8830 Silver Marking Film, that may be used by ROBOTS to sense FIELD elements."

From the manual, section 2.2.4:
"The dynamic VISION TARGET is actuated to show the retro-reflective material when its corresponding HIGH and LOW GOAL are HOT. It will rotate to hide the retro-reflective material (pointing it upwards) when its corresponding HIGH and LOW GOAL are not HOT."

The hot goal will be indicated by the pattern of retroreflective tape. Both vertical stripes are stationary and will always be present. The horizontal stripe will either be visible or not, depending on whether the goal is hot or not.

::rtm:: Pretty much the only way to tell if the goal is hot is through the horizontal vision target, that flips for 5 seconds on each side.
