Hi Chief Delphi -

This year my team and I would like to use the Solenoid Breakout (am-0868) attached to NI Module 9472 to trigger a double solenoid (extend and compress a piston shaft) instead of using multiple Spike relays. However, I could not find a clear diagram anywhere that specifically details how a pneumatic solenoid is to be connected to the breakout.

I have seen diagrams like this one here: http://team358.org/files/pneumatic/DoubleSolenoidBumperWiring.jpgBelow, however, I cannot tell which color wire goes where and on which pin on the breakout.

I have attached a diagram of how the solenoid should be wired up to the breakout (from my understanding).

Can someone else confirm or correct me?

Thank you in advance for your help! My team and I greatly appreciate it!

That's correct. Just make sure that the solenoid breakout board is powered by the 24 volt supply on the PDB if you're using a 24 volt solenoid.

The LabVIEW FRC examples have clear wiring diagrams, and there are examples to cover all of the most common FRC items. Even if you don't program in LabVIEW, it may be worth your time to install it and poke around the examples.

Thanks Jared for confirming our wire diagram!

Joe - These diagrams are within the Labview programming software? Also, do you agree with Jared that the diagram for wiring a solenoid to the breakout is correct?

Yes and Yes.

Yes, that's how you wire it.

We bought the VexPro manifold and valves last year, and made a cable to feed all the solenoid outputs to the manifold for neater wiring. This year it'll be simpler since there aren't so many air cylinders needed to play the game.

Does this piece here: http://www.vexrobotics.com/catalog/product/gallery/id/25906/, get mounted to one of these: http://www.vexrobotics.com/catalog/product/gallery/id/25906/image/28706/.

Yes,
But you need the plates to close off the unused ports on the manifold. Please be sure to wire +24 volts to the power common on the solenoid module in order to control 24 volt solenoids. No power means the solenoids will not work.
