So I'm posting this in the electrical and pneumatics sections because I'm not quite sure which would be better. My team just got two AVS-5212-24D solenoids from AutoMation Direct so that we could get a higher flow rate from them. We got them in the other day and we got them hooked up and they work perfect but our problem is that we are slightly stumped about the wiring. It's a 24V single-solenoid that has a DIN-style plug. It's connector has 2 black wires, DC+ and DC-, and it has one yellow/green wire that is the ground. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Here is the link (http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Pneumatic_Components/Pneumatic_Valves_-a-_Accessories/Solenoid_Directional_Control_Air_Valves_-a-_Accessories/5-port_(4-way),_2-pos.,_Body_Ported_-z-_Manifold_(AVS-5,AM_Series)/AVS-5212-24D) to the part.

I haven't used them myself, but my best guess is DC+ and DC- are the two sides of the solenoid, and the yellow/green wire is an "earth" ground. If that's the case, then you would connect DC+ to the positive side of the solenoid breakout, DC- to the negative side, and just tape up the yellow/green wire since it wouldn't be used on a robot.

Just FYI, the 5212 solenoid valve isn't legal (due to the 1/4" NPT ports). Sure you don't have the 5211?

Sparky3D is 100% correct about the wiring, although optionally you could tie the earth ground on the solenoid (yelllow/grn wire) to the frame of the robot.

Automation Direct has a "no questions asked" 30-day returns policy - so if you do need to return the 5212 it will be fairly painless - just log-in to your account on AutomationDirect.com, then visit https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Return/Return to request an RMA number.
