That looks really cool, how much range can you get out of it?
I want to see this thing working. those arn't even mini-cims so I cant imagine you get a very good shot out of it

RS- 775s work pretty darn well for shooters. I think you'd be very surprised.

A "good" shot in this game might not necessarily be a distance shot anyway. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see these wheels launch it pretty far.
I love it, and look forward to seeing it in action!

we are launching up to 16 feet, but he is actually very reliable at 10 feet. the principal is not the engine, which is very good, but the pressure and the area of contact on the ball ...
also, there is a chance of a video for today, but tomorrow is for sure!

We used rs-775s last year on our shooter with a 4:1 gear reduction. This brought us down to about the same rpm as a CIM but with more torque. We could even do full-court shots with them. They can pack a punch if used correctly.

OP - Very cool, haven't seen anything like it on CD yet this year. I would love to see a video of it working!

You should read up on motor power ratings before making such statements/assumptions.

RS775-18 = 273W
MiniCIM = 229W
A 775 can provide more power than a MiniCIM. I'm betting they are shooting just fine. (http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default/files/uploadedImages/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Game_and_Season__Info/2014/2014_Motor_Information.pdf)

We are finishing the mechanical parts from the robot, probably 3 or 4 more hours and we will be ready to record some shootings and post here...
here's a picture from the work up to now...

What's that material on the rollers?
calvinpanho

By the rollers i suppose you are referring to the "brownish" pipes???
they are 40mm (+- 1.57 in) PVC water pipes...

Looks powerful. Nice.
Here I thought our puncher was a monster! That thing looks spectacular. My compliments to whoever was involved in the assembly. Yet, I cannot clearly see any form of ball intake. Does your design make you reliant on your partners to hand the ball to you before shooting?

Does that intake work with bumpers on the robot?

I was thinking the same thing. That dip on the intake side looks lower than 7 in off the ground.

How much does the compression of a ball affect the shot? Have you tried with balls blown up to different sizes yet?

Hi,
I can't tell you exactly how much pressure there is, but, as you can see, in the video there are 2 balls (red and Blue), and they got a big pressure difference between them.
We tested many times the difference on the range with the 2 balls, but there is a limit distance in which it's irrelevant.
Awesome concept, even more impressive packaging.
It's a shame we won't be seeing you guys traveling up here to New England anymore.
Good luck this season.

New video from test #3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32cyE4vHi_A
4 shots:
* #1 - close range: 7'5"
* #2 - medium range: 18'7"
* #3 - long range: 24'6"
* #4 - Truss
(sorry for the uncut video)

Putting backspin on that truss shot is really clever and something I doubt most shooter could do. Was it intentionally designed to keep the ball from rolling forward in case of a missed catch as well?

Looks great guys, I love the variability that the wheels allow you to build into the shots.

Thanks!!!
Also, tomorrow, by the midnight here in Brazil (22:00 EST), i will create a new thread for the robot 100% done, with a video in better quality, but i will keep uploading robot photos for today and tomorrow here!

Do the double wheels per motor provide a significant advantage over just single wheels?
calvinpanho
17-02-2014, 12:11
Yes, they provide more pressure making the shot more precise.

Jeser and I from 1772 were just talking about this, the Brazilians are coming to Orlando looking to win it all I see.
