Awesome work! That robot is going to be a real "catch" on an alliance.

Just wondering, is your catching automated in any way?

I honestly thought we wouldn't see anyone successfully catch that way. Hopefully you can pull that off on the real field.

That catch wasn't automated, though we are working out ways to make it automated.
Can't wait to see it up close in Duluth
Now THAT will be a crowd pleaser, troll or no troll. What is the range of distance from the truss that you've made successful catches from?

If you had lied and said that it was automated I would have believed you. It looks awesome.

Very cool. We have also successfully tested a similar mechanism.

Like Eric said we will be working on Automated, but I have a feeling that we will be able to get the timing down well enough with our operator. This happened to us in 2012 when we had an automated targeting system.
And repeatedly:D
At first I thought it was a pipe dream, but after only a couple of days doing it only a handful of times, I feel much more confident.

The ball in the video was thrown at about the alliance line. We have tried a couple different positions with moderate success. I am confident that practice will improve this substantially (or software) as it is more a matter of getting the timing down rather than the robot being able to catch the ball itself.
The "claw" that we have is what really will give us the majority of our capabilities, we will plan on a full release video in the future.
