Student on team #237, Sie-H2O-Bots, from Watertown High School and Eastern Awning Systems & The Siemon Company.
How many of you out there are on teams that have non-profit status from your state?
If so, have you found it to be beneficial? If not, why haven't you?
Just curious,

RAGE is a non-profit organization of CT. We usually say so when we are going after sponsors...they are almost always willing to help out.
Off topic: By the way Jessica, RAGE got some more press in Sunday's Courant (Business Section). Expect to hear from your grandparents ;) .

Usually big companies will not make a big donation without the 501 nonprofit status because that is the only way they can declare the deduction. We find it to be a great selling point when requesting donations and the number is given in the thank you letter after we receive the donation.

As of now, we're running under RIT so we are therefore
501(c)3 non-profit. We just have to direct any
donations through the RIT donations people and they
arrange all the non-profit parts. Well, that's whats
supposed to happen. We haven't actually tried it yet
but the Engineering Dept says that should work.

I know HOT Team is. Based on what I have heard from some of their engineers, it has been a tremendous help for things like fundraising and getting donations.
