View Full Version : performance wheel tread keeps falling off
Hi all!
The tread on our performance wheels keeps sliding off to the side during rough driving. We dont want to rivet if we can avoid it- any tips for keeping the darn stuff on?

We used Krazy Glue last year (in addition to rivets) to help hold our treads on our shooter wheel.
We could use rivets but we would like to be able to change tread. Thus, zip-ties.

You can drill out rivets and replace them with the same sized ones. We used this method in 2008, 2010, and 2011 with much success

Rivets. We also made a drilling jig to drill the treads ahead of time, so the rivet holes line up.

You can also zip tie around the tread and the aluminuim wheel (so the zip ties run parallel to the wheels axis) in multiple places. Worked for us last year.
Last year, we decided on a system where we use double sided sticky tape (the kind that has the red cover on it) to stick the tread to the wheel. Then we ziptied the tread down over the tape. We never had to retread all season (and off season).
Rivets. We also made a drilling jig to drill the treads ahead of time, so the rivet holes line up.
This plus contact cement.

We have had success drilling and tapping holes in the wheels and attaching the tread using 6-32 bolts with large heads.
