Nice robot 11! Lovin all the black and yellow! :)
That powder coating. :-) I really like this robot!

That's a really cool design, also how's its accuracy

We're sinking every shot in the scoring zone except for right in the goalie zone.

Can't wait to play with you guys again at SCHA. :)
Looks great! Looking forward to seeing it in action at SCH

Is it just me, or would a skull-shaped camera look way too cool?

That thought crossed my mind as well!
Great looking robot!:)

Haha, maybe the kids can 3D print a skull shaped case for the camera :)

Yeah, with the 3D printer back up and running, we will work on it as soon as possible. ;)

You don't get robot audio in the video, but the sound of the catapult winding up is absolutely terrifying.
So awesome, looks like 11 is in for another great year after their awesome 2013 campaign.
I'm trying to figure out how you get variability in your shot, care to share?

We have a hard stop mechanism actuated by pistons that stops the arm before reaching its full speed.
At 1:45, you can see the white pieces near the pivot axle at action.

More like 1:38. That allows us to make the truss lob and layup shots shown right after the shift.
Great Job!....But, something tells me that "Tempest" will not fit in a teapot.
Good Luck!
I was re-watching the video and only now just noticed the other robot cameo in the video.
A sneak peek of Beta? :)

Think of it as an unofficial, not so intentional teaser ;)

I think the song is awesome as well. Just realized that the name of the song is "Black Sun". Very clever MORT, very clever indeed.
Can't wait to see this beast compete in person!

I actually had to go back and check. I had thought it was skull-shaped.

Well to be fair our logo IS a pirate.
Also, after watching some of the other reveals, I really wish we had the time to stick on LED's for the video

How much extra traction do you get from that as compared to normal colsons?

What machining process did you use to cut those? Did you freeze the wheels first? What kind of performance gains have you seen from that? Did you try any other tread patterns?

Link07 - We don't have exact numbers, but the traction was much higher than normal colsons. If you are planning on getting into pushing matches, I would recommend them. ;)
Lil' Lavery - We simply took them to a band saw and put cuts in them. Much higher traction gained from simple 5 minutes of work. We are planning on trying out different patterns, but the current design should be significantly better than normal colsons. :D

We were able to push Beta around in practice a little bit at least :D

Sean,
I intend to publish a quantitative analysis on wheel tread eventually. But for now we've found that comparatively: straight cut > diamond cut > uncut when it comes to simulated coefficient of friction in the forward direction.
Because the cut is perpendicular to the direction of motion, the forward component receives 100% of the vector's magnitude unlike the angled cuts in the diamond pattern.
The W set of VexPro wheels follow the same logic.

Because the cut is perpendicular to the direction of motion, the forward component receives 100% of the vector's magnitude unlike the angled cuts in the diamond pattern.Eric, don't forget to consider the traction from when the tread material bends, when the cuts are sufficiently close to each other. A diamond pattern has more cuts and thus some thinner profiles. I can't say if it is significant or not, but rubber car tires use angled siping just so they can get thinner profiles compared to perpendicular siping.

I absolutely agree that my explanation was an oversimplification. We intend to do MUCH more comprehensive testing. But with the data points we have so far, the straight cuts are the best performing wheels we've tried.

Not planned? So the song is "Black Sun" and the robot is black and yellow(sun) and this is totally coincidental? :yikes: Guess it was meant to be!

I love it. A simple design that capitalizes on 11's strengths - strategy and execution. Paint job is beautiful too. I expect success similar to 2013 with this thing.
Oh, and tell Drost that I hate the music :P

Polycarbonate round tube with sorbothane epoxied on. It's incredibly grippy but requires wiping down before every match or two - it gets dust/dirt on it and becomes more slick.
Overall, we're very happy with it.
