A mentor from our team was not sure if it's legal to have your battery mounted flat. We didn't do this last year and most if not all teams that I've seen have had their battery mounted upright. I don't remember any rule restricting how we can mount our battery. Is it legal to have it flat?

We are mounting ours flat. It's perfectly legal.

The battery can be used in any orientation. I personally do not recommend charging up side down. As always (do I need to say this?) all exposed metal on the battery and wire terminals needs to be insulated.

Plus, all the electrons are going to fall out.

We've had ours upright for several years, but it was "flat" in 2010.

I have seen many different battery mounts, from 3d printed ones (they were in two parts) to ones where the battery is bungee-corded down to the bot. It's best to make sure that the battery is secure and won't come loose during a match. To test how secure your battery is, you may want to drive your robot at the top speed that you might be moving during a match, and turn back and forth. If the battery comes loose, Use a different way to secure it. As for my team, we are using the bungee cords, which works surprisingly well.

Hope you have good luck!
