I went to a week one regional last year against majority of these teams (Lone Star) and the best advice I gave my team was to not be intimated. This is the first interaction with the competition robot since bag day for everyone. So everyone is going to be working out kinks and its a matter of who can get a working robot and come up with a winning strategy the fastest.
Also go site seeing in San Antonio. There's a lot of attractions there that are awesome. It's a great city and you can learn a lot about Texas history and culture there.
I'm heading down to San Antonio today and hang out by the Riverwalk for a few days til I help with field setup and load in on Wednesday.
It's gonna be like 82 on Sunday. I probably won't know what to do with myself.
It'll be very interesting.. We're an FL Team but we'll be in San Antonio during The FRC Alamo Regional for the FTC Southern Super Regional - to be held just 20 feet away from the FRC pits!
It'll be great to see some Texas FRC teams - we've already listed a dozen teams who we need to stalk to no end while we're in San Antonio ;)

People always seem to give us weird looks when we walk down the streets.
2386 is coming down from canada this year for the Alamo regional and it looks like were gonna have lots of fun. The hospitality we have gotten thus far from teams down in texas has been great so far and it will be nice to see some warmer weather for a change ;) looking like some great competition and we cant wait!

That was.... disappointing.
Is Spyder messed up, or are the assist and total scores really low? It shows Alamo at 83 average winning score and 150 as the high assist score. Central Illinois has 120 & 430, respectively. You guys playing ferocious defense or is something else going on?

Although I can't comment on specifics as I wasn't there, it seemed like there were a lot of weird things going on from the referee/scorekeeping side of things. There were times where it seemed like robots were waiting 30 seconds after scoring a ball for their pedestal to be lit up for the next cycle to begin.

I haven't been watching any other regionals since I've been busy with matches, but we are waiting till the ball goes fully through the goal (often they hit the inside bar and bounce up and down till the ball bounces back into the field again) to light up the pedestal.
EDIT: By "we" I mean human players.

Based on the FMS twitter, we have seen that:
A total of 72 qualification matches were played.
The average score by each alliance is 56.6 split by
Autonomous: 30.4%
Teleop 37.4%
Fouls 32.2%
Additionally the percent of matches, in which fouls changed the outcome was 15.27%, 8 matches favoring blue, and 3 matches favoring red. This was calculated by looking at who won the matches before and after fouls, and noting the difference.
Hey does anyone know where we could find interviews that were taken in the social media lounge/Station? Our FTC/FRC team member had an interview and we are looking for the interview since we have a huge event tomorrow morning. If anyone knows where it is that be great!

Please define who "we" is in your response.
The rules say once the ball is completely through the plane, the ball is scored. If the ball goes completely through the plane of the goal why is "we" waiting to light the pedestal? There is nothing in the rule book that states the pedestal should not be lit until the ball is "known to not re-enter the field". The current implementation seems a far from the intent of the rule.
Either way, FIRST needs to update the field (similar to 2012's deflectors under the bridge) to vastly reduce the event of a ball completely crossing the plane of the goal and then re-entering field of play.

Notice that there are 2 clauses to this statement:
A BALL is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if
a ROBOT causes one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S BALLS to cross completely and remain completely through the opening(s) of one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S GOALS...
The refs are doing the correct thing right now by waiting until the ball will not bounce back. That doesn't mean any of us like it (I certainly don't) but the blame for situations like these should not go to the refs.

I'm not sure how I looked over that before posting. So when a ball gets stuck in the rails (I saw it happen on webcasts a few times), the ball being scored or not depends on which way it rolls when the volunteers free the ball? Yes, this a very frustrating catch to the rule. I guess FIRST should put these types of things in their "cheapman's drawings" for the goals as well. They seem to be making quite a difference.
A solution should be developed to help avoid these circumstances.

The description I'm seeing from some people here on CD is that there is a significant gap (15-30 seconds in some cases) between the ball being scored and the pedestal being lit. Whether the pedestal should light up as the ball passes through the goal or when it is apparent it will not return to play doesn't sound like the issue. It seems, rather, that for some reason there is a significant delay beyond that occasionally. I haven't noticed any instances of it myself, but I have only been keeping one eye on a computer screen when I can during school to see some matches, so I could have missed it.

I didn't really phrase that second statement well. What I meant was that none of us like that the ball can bounce back from the inside of the goal after being scored.

3103 died irreparably and a replacement came out but something happened with 190 as well. I heard some strange stories from frustrated alliance members about why they didn't come back onto the field. Probably just a misunderstanding.

I'm sure 190 was the frustrated alliance member. I think their drive blew up twice over the weekend.

Team 4063, TRikzR4kiDz, would like to thank everyone for another memorable regional event. Our robot did not perform to our expectations, but I am very proud of the work our kids put in to make our trip more successful for ourselves and others.

Yup, there were a lot of incorrect stories going around - as ScoreKeeper I think I heard 3 different versions floating about. Here's the final "accepted" version of events:
(1) 3103 shredded their drivetrain, and so they called for a backup robot and 5052 was on standby to take their place.
(2) 190 then realized their robot was beyond repair as well (also due to a shredded drivetrain), and could not come in for another match.
(3) Their remaining partner, 3335, wanted to throw in the towel but they Graciously agreed to take the field with 5052 and not go down without a fight.
(4) And fight they did.

Week one is over and many of us are off preparing for our next event.
Team 2468 appreciates 148 and 2789 accepting our invitation to join us in eliminations. It was a blast working with these two teams. We came up short in the end but we gave it our best shot. The attention to detail that 148 demonstrated not only to their robot but to 2789 and us was amazing. It is no wonder why they continue to be nothing short of World Class each year. 2789 continues to carry on their tradition of the defensive stopper but this year as a fullback as well. Best of luck to both of you throughout the rest of year.
Team Appreciate would like to extend congratulations to:
2158 AuTIN Cans for Engineering Inspiration - they were our mentor team back in 2008 and still continue to support many teams in the area, host events and reach out in many other ways than just FRC.
624 - Chairman's Winner - If ever I was jealous of a school or team, it is Cryptonite and their new facilities. They have worked extremely hard not only to build their FRC program but also with the school district to promote STEM within their district.

5052 - Cedar Park Robolobos - Rookie All Stars. It was a pleasure to work with this team throughout the season starting back as early as September. Gabe has lead these guys throughout the season and established an excellent foundation for the future.
624, 118 and 3008 on the Regional Championship win and Championships qualifications. The matches were physical battles with strategies changing throughout each match. Game resets and delays were tough to deal with during the matches but the interactions between the teams off the field was great.
4063 was everywhere with their bunny ears and pink hardhats. They received the Gracious Professionalism award. From what I understand, not only did they have the most submissions for this award from other teams but they had more submissions than all the other teams combined at the tournament. This is three in a row for them carrying over from last year. What a tradition to carry on!!!
Thanks to all the volunteers, judges and referees at the Alamo Regional. The facilities were great and the layout was very good although some room my help around the entrance in and out of the field.

On behalf of Team 2386, we would like to thank Patrick and Jessica for organizing a great regional! The hospitality of the teams down in Texas was great.
We would also like to extend a special thanks to Team 457 for helping us organize a few tours of the Toyota Plant and Boeing. We really appreciated the support from this team and it eased the travel anxieties of who were were going to borrow tools from etc as we were coming from the Great White North.
Although we did not come away with any hardware, we were honoured that Teams 3337 and 2158 selected us to be with them in Alliance #7.
We are eager to get back in the game at the end of March on home turf at the North Bay Regional. Hopefully we won't knock anyone over again... (Sorry again Robonauts!)
Good luck to those competing in the coming weeks! Hopefully we have learned from Week 1 of what to expect... :)

Words can't describe how excited we were to work with both of your teams again in eliminations matches. Norm, good luck to you and Team Appreciate for the rest of the season, we will definitely miss having you as our pit neighbors, and we hope to help the Robowranglers make another run for the gold in Dallas in a couple of weeks!
I would also like to thank our great friends on 4063. I've never seen another team truly embody the spirit of Gracious Professionalism as well as this team. From helping so many teams prior to as well as at the event, to collaborating with us on scouting and also having team members serve as volunteers at the event, the bunnies were everywhere doing everything they could to make this event the best it could be for all involved. It's no surprise that your team earned the 3-Peat on the GP award at Alamo. Looking forward to seeing y'all again at Dallas!
Congratulations are also definitely in order for the winning alliance, glad to see 3008 took some hardware back home on their long journey, and it goes without saying that our team has the highest respect for both teams 624 and 118. Norm mentioned earlier that our finals matches were physical, and I'm not sure if anyone else knows this, but we broke a weld on our frame during the first match and the Robowranglers helped us patch it back up with a few rivets for the second match!
We would also like to thank the volunteers & event staff for all of the hard work put in to make this event happen. Thank you!
