We have a spring powered catapult that is released with a winch. For the winch, we bought one of Andymark's Shift-to-Neutral Winches (am-2774) (http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2774.htm). This disengages the motor with a dog gear that has to be pushed out. Because we didn't use pneumatics, we have a cam on a window motor that rotates to push it out.
