Our team developed a really strong, but hefty catapult system this year. In fact it's so powerful, it can launch from the beginning of the white zone, over the truss and into the high goal. During a match, would that be a valid play? 10 points for receiving a assist into the white zone + 10 point for truss toss + 10 points for high goal? 30 points for a very short (~10 seconds) cycle seems to good to be true. And yes, I've been ::rtm:: , but haven't found anything concerning this sort of play.
No. You must be in front of the truss to score.
I'll try to find the rule number

A BALL is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if
A. a ROBOT causes one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S BALLS to cross completely and remain completely through the
opening(s) of one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S GOALS without intervening human contact,
B. the ALLIANCE ROBOT last in contact with the BALL was entirely between the TRUSS and their ALLIANCE’S
HIGH GOALS, and
C. the BALL is not in contact with any ROBOT from that ALLIANCE.
Part B is what you missed.

3.1.4 Scoring
For BALLS with which the ALLIANCE started the MATCH, points are awarded when they are SCORED in GOALS.
For BALLS retrieved from an ALLIANCE'S PEDASTAL, points are awarded to ALLIANCES per the details below. Final scores will be assessed five (5) seconds after the ARENA timer displays zero (0) or when all elements come to rest, whichever event happens first.
Points are awarded once per CYCLE for BALLS SCORED by ROBOTS in the GOALS, BALLS SCORED by ROBOTS over the TRUSS, and for each ROBOT CATCH and as each objective is achieved. Additional points are credited to an ALLIANCE upon each GOAL based on the number of ASSISTS earned by the ALLIANCE for that CYCLE.
A BALL is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if
a ROBOT causes one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S BALLS to cross completely and remain completely through the opening(s) of one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S GOALS without intervening TEAM member contact,
the ALLIANCE ROBOT last in contact with the BALL was entirely between the TRUSS and their ALLIANCE’S HIGH GOALS, and
the BALL is not in contact with any ROBOT from that ALLIANCE.
No, you cannot score from behind the truss other than scoring a truss shot. The field crew will simply hand the ball to the human player on the other side of the truss after it is "scored" so that the cycle may resume. There is no foul for this, but the score will not count ie. Robowranglers accidently scored into the 1 point goal from over the truss during Alamo Semifinals Match 2-2.

Yeah, I thought it was too great to be valid. Thanks for the quick answers though :)
One thing that our team is doing (we also have a catapult that can score from just behind the truss, but not from over it) is practicing passing from one side of the truss to the human player on the other side. This gives you truss points without having to worry about trying to chase around a ball that may have a bit of velocity while bouncing around.

I saw credit being given for one of these shots At Inland Empire when the ball bounced into the low goal after being shot over the truss.

You should also be able to throw over the truss to your human player who can then pass it to a robot on your team. That is a powerful sequence!

They did NOT count the same thing at Alamo

Beside the goal not counting as noted above, the ball has to be reentered into the field by a HP. The field crew thought they saw a goal scored, so they're getting the ball back to the pedestal instead. Lots of time lost getting that ball back into the HP's hands.

As one of the refs in that match, I double-checked that with the Head Ref afterwards. Turns out it bounced off of an alliance partner on the way in--which DOES make it a goal, under 3.1.4.B. (I didn't necessarily see that part of it, as I was concentrating on something else at the time.)

I believe the shot at inland empire was made by me, as in my driving for 599. It was really cool by the way and totally unbelievable. I don't think it contacted one of our other robots, it was a shot straight over, bounced once, hit the wall and fell in. So cool.
Here is an early video of our robot shooting the high goal from 32 feet. It wasn't fully charged and we could probably have squeezed out another 6 feet or so. I keep showing this as our bragging vid.

We were all secretive about our shooter then we found out we couldn't score this way. At that point we made our maximum setting lower than this but still can fire a truss shot from color zone to color zone no problem. We think of ourselves the 'Truss Shot Kings'.
Since accuracy is strained at this distance, this wouldn't have been a commonly used shot but it could have served as a Hail Mary miracle shot in a close match. Even if it didn't score I thought this would really have been a crowd pleaser and make the game more exciting. Even at where we have it set, the crowd got loud when we set it off.
Since there is no end game, in my fantasy matches, in the last 30 seconds such a shot would have been allowed for a whopping 100 points. But if they had done that everyone would have built one of these and more important parts of the game would have suffered. There is so much tension in our springs that getting this to charge, latch and still be safe was not trivial and took a chunk of our build time. Nevertheless our loader loads in 2 seconds and our driver is incredibly intuitive with passing and defense. We are very proud of our team.
