Starting a thread for the 2014 Queen City Regional! 3324 is ready to go!
1529 is excited for the third annual QCR.
We've made a team info sheet (https://docs.google.com/a/perryschools.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuWZ5bSWRNhOdEJhZngtTUc4emZMcXA0b3ktY2h6M 2c#gid=0)for the event.
Interesting tidbit: 73% of teams at QCR have played in at least one previous event. The strategy and gameplay will be outstanding.

Ya, we have been watching matches from other competitions that involve queen city bots! It will definitely be exciting. I think 2 or 3 bots have already qualified for worlds. Scouting will be very fun!

I've also started to assemble a spreadsheet for social media links to do preliminary scouting for teams at Queens. I have not quite finished it yet.

Also I heard something about there being extra refs at Queen City to help keep the game rulings consistent. Anyone else heard any more news on this development?

Curious as to where you would have heard this?

I heard it from a fellow team's coach. Just a rumor I guess.

FIRST, after week 1, added an additional ref to the mid-field position across from the Head Ref. Other than that, I we have not discussed adding additional Field Ref's as this would make it unfair to the other events/teams since our event would then be different from how FIRST has detailed the Field operations.

Bomb Squad is excited to be making the trek out to Cincinnati. We're even getting in a plant tour at the Toyota facility on Wednesday afternoon!
We're looking forward what looks like some very tough competition. See y'all there.

That's cool!
On Thursday we will have 2 Bomb Squad's in the house. For the third year, the Cincinnati Bomb Squad will be on site with their Bomb Disposal Robot.

In case anybody is interested, we'll have a demonstration for the 2015 control system set up in the pits. Y'all come by and poke/prod/ask questions... That's why we brought it. If you don't see us at the demo, just come find us at our pit. We are a little small this year, so we may not be able to keep it manned all the time.

FYI you have an end pit next to the practice field and I will be setting up an extra table or 2 next to your pit for the demo.
Just got back from the practice field where I was watching a few of the central Indiana teams practicing. QC better watch out!

Fearless Likely Wrong Prediction - 16 and 525 will defeat 1024 and 868/234 in the finals, and 2016 will win the Chairman's Award.

Laying all out there, eh Travis? There are quite a few strong teams showing up in the teams list - we're up to 47 teams now and adding maybe one or two more. Anything can happen here in our fair Queen City. Even your "fearless likely wrong" prediction could come true, hard to dispute those powerful teams. It's going to be tough for everyone.

The Swartdogs are excited to be heading east this year and meet up with old friends and make some new ones. We will miss our familiar surroundings at 10,000 Lakes but are anxious to compete in a new place. The only part we are not looking forward to is 8-9 hours on the bus instead of 3 ½.
Team 4830 from China will be traveling with us. They arrive here tomorrow afternoon and will visit our high school on Wednesday morning leaving with us on the bus at 12:30.
We are going to do our best to make sure they have a great experience and I'm sure everyone at the regional will welcome them and do the same.

I REALLY appreciate that you guys are managing a webcast for this event! Thank you so much. I can't be there with my team, and it's been great to watch today.
Not a criticism, just curious: can you improve the quality of the webcast at all? I'm trying to scout, but I can't read the team numbers on the bumpers. Is there an HD option available?

Is the schedule on the blue alliance correct?
Also, are the practice matches not showing up on FRC-Spy for anyone else?

Unfortunately we aren't able to take full advantage of the equipment we brought with us because the box provided by the AV crew only accepts a composite (480p) video connection. Our initial hopes were to stream in 1080p. BUT, I'm sure the venue can handle HD streaming-- if we had the proper equipment-- the internet connection here is a beast (http://puu.sh/7LTpC.jpg)!

Thanks for trying.
It helped when you showed the angle from the truss and showed a quick closeup of each side of the field.
If we can get that angle before each match, we should be able to get an idea of what each robot looks like with the bumpers clearly showing, before switching to the full-field view.
THANK YOU! The webcast was great today. It was nice to be able to see our practice matches. You rock!

What's with the weird sound repeating in the webcast?

Actually, it sounds like some cool FRC remix.
Did everyone lose the sound in the webcast?

We turned off the sound because of the looping. No sound just seemed like the better alternative.
Got the problem fixed over lunch, it should be a-ok now.

I was pretty darn close. Also took a look at the awards list and noted its similarity to Buckeye- congrats to all the visiting winning teams!
QC Awards - http://www2.usfirst.org/2014comp/Events/OHCI/awards.html
Buckeye Awards - http://www2.usfirst.org/2014comp/Events/OHCL/awards.html
Seriously, just look at those awards lists. Ohio got GP and WFFA at QC. Are outside teams that good? Are Ohio teams that bad? Do judges have some kind of extreme sense of state self-loathing?

We appreciate your confidence in us (525), but unfortunately we were killed by one issue after another. It was pretty crazy really. (Note to self: never say "Nothing else can go wrong now.") We finally got everything working again for the second quarter final match but our alliance lead tipped over in the early in the match. It was good to finish our last match with everything working again - maybe a bit of confidence for the students in St. Louis.
We had a great time in Queen City - made lots of new friends. 4830 had a good time also - a highlight was when Eric from our team and the mentor from 4830 got to game announce a match in Mandarin with 525 and 4830 on the same alliance.
Queen City is by far the best regional in Ohio. The entire group of organizers, judges, referees, and staff are student-centric, and that makes a big difference in the overall feeling you have as a team -- you actually feel important instead of feeling like you broke some rule and are about to get punished.

Blue Cheese had a "grate" time at this regional. All of the matches were very competitive, the venue was awesome, and the teams were really nice. I hope we get to come here again in 2015.

I was very impressed with the whole 525 team. I completely understand the frustration when one thing after another goes wrong (that was QCR for us last year, until eliminations when our bad mojo rubbed off on 1038) but you handled it well. And you have a really nice robot. Your human player was good a nice young man as well.
I also would like to congratulate the Quadrangles (3494) and the Metrobots (3324). Two nice teams we have played with in the past who had good robots and played well this weekend. The RoboAces (4283) was also impressive with the tweaking of their robot from Crossroads to Queen City.
As for the Bomb Squad, they do have an amazing robot, but it was their driving that really impressed me. There were plenty of times as a ref when I was watching one action on one end of the field and all of a sudden they would appear and slide right through a swarm of robots for a score or some play defense, then zip right back out.

That attitude is a reflection of the RPC. I have been privileged to serve with most of them as a team mentor. Student-centric is an accurate description. They are committed to the growth of the students and the growth of the program. I know that they appreciate you sharing that feedback. It is well deserved and well earned. And I concur.

Knowing you, I understand that you are being humorously serious. We were fortunate to have the participation of some very fine teams from around the globe. I think that the judges made excellent decisions. I would say that Ohio teams are good and there were a few teams from outside of Ohio from whom we can all learn a few things. It was great fun and I sure hope QCR continues to attract such a diverse field ... China, seriously ... that was impressive.

Team Roboto would like to thank the event staff for continuing to put on an incredible event. We would also like to thank the teams 16 and 2665 for being great alliance partners, and helping us win the event. We could not have done it without our entire alliance working together as well as it did while everyone did what they needed to do. Congratulations to all of the teams that went for making Queen City such a competitive and great event!

Greetings,
Sorry we are bit late, It has been a bit crazy since we got off the bus Sunday.
So, where to start...
Thanks to Beak Squad (4028) for seeing what our drive team and robot could do despite our ranking. The FEDS (201) are a great team: easy to work with and professional through and through. I wish we had the first QF match back. We had a battery wire ripped out of our robot. Who knows what the last 45 seconds could have been with three working robots.
Bomb Squad (16): This was my first time seeing a swerve used to such perfection. The phrase, "they move like butter on hot skillet" doesn't begin to describe your robot. It was a pleasure meeting your entire team. I hope we get on the field with you again at Worlds.
Might Monkey Wrenches (2016): Your entire program is a true example of what a FIRST team should be. From your outreach, safety program, diversity and quality of robot design I cannot find a weak link in your program. Congrats on your EI award. Best of luck at Worlds.
SwartDogs (525): Thanks for answering all my questions throughout the weekend. Your design and control systems are something most teams can only dream of. Best of luck in St. Louis!
QCR is an awesome event. If our schedule and bank account permit, we will most definitely come back.

On behalf of team 4982 Olympus Robotics, I would like to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Queen City Regional. With QCR being our first regional as a rookie team, we were able to learn lots of new things that could help us in the future. We are very grateful for the many teams that helped us get through our first regional. Thank you to teams 525 and 3138, you guys were great alliance partners in Eliminations. Sorry that we tipped over during that second Quarter Finals Match!
