Do they even exist? It seems like everyone follows the same format, but some have better production quality than others. I tried to do something original, but I found out that it doesn't work out quite easily. The format I'm talking about comes in two variations. Either the team is the only one in the video with b-roll here and there or there is a mix of the team and some other people that are giving testimonials.

I have an idea for what would be a fairly unique video I think, but time and equipment restraints really stop me from doing it. I might attempt it over the summer. But I'm wondering why there aren't really any non-interview-style videos out there as well. I know not every team has the same restraints as I do.

I'd suggest getting a hold of 33's from a few years back. Or 27's from this year.

27's is really good. I'm impressed by all the slider movements being so clean, I have yet to perfect the technique. I can't say I like 33's a lot, but at least it is different from the usual.

You need to see Team 781's submission from this season. When it was played at GTR East, hundreds of jaws hit the floor. Unique and effective; one of the best CA videos I've ever seen.

Kinetic Knights? They don't seem to have posted their video on YouTube yet. If the whole event thought it was amazing then they must be doing something right. I'll keep an eye on their channel for the video.

I was there to witness Team 27 win the RCA and then watched the video live on the big screen.
I came away totally impressed with how they were able to capture what their entire program is about.

As a 27 Alum... yeah they really did.

After Windsor-Essex (week 6 event for us), we'll release our Chairman's video. Thank you for your kind words, Karthik, and to everyone else, we have set our release for the video on April 6th in case anyone wants a specific date.

Thank you everyone for your gracious words!

I am really proud, not only of what my teammates have been able to produce with our own video, but in a larger essence, of what FRC students are able to produce. No matter if a team's Chairman's videos is generic or not, I am always personally excited to see the creativity of effort students put towards their videos.

It seems like everyone follows the same format, but some have better production quality than others.

For the most part, I agree with this. Overall, I think it's tough to stray away from a "standard" (i.e. Ken Burns slideshows, clips of student/mentor/community member interviews, etc) of sorts while still showcasing what your team does. And, in my opinion, that's okay. A lot of FIRST and the Chairman's Award criteria is showcasing how people are inspired, and words definitely say more than pictures!

However, every so often you see something really cool and you remember it. One of the ones that I recall quite well is 2337's video from 2013 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WEZ342uE9k). Although it still follows the "standard" I mentioned above, the drawing animations give it a little extra shazam (and a little humor when you notice the glasses drawn on everybody!)

Also, as an alumni of 27, and the one who was "the" video editor for 2.5 years of my 4 on the team, I have to say that I'm really impressed with 2014's video. (Actually, I loved 2013's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5hEv3pT9tQ) as well - I guess the videos got better once I stopped making/helping with them :P ;))

We didn't win Chairman's in 2012 but I thought our video was very original.

FRC 1675's 2011 Chairman's Video was music and photos if you are looking for an example of that format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnnlVrI8jNQ

It does maintain that "standard" style of video, but I was a fan of the crayola titles that start up at 40 seconds in.

After Windsor-Essex (week 6 event for us), we'll release our Chairman's video.

I'm looking forward to seeing it!

This year Team 1646 decided to go way outside the box with our Chairman's video. While it didn't end up being as informative as we would have liked, the students had a ton of fun making it and the finished product is great for humor, something clearly lacking in a lot of Chairman's videos (that I've seen).

Enjoy!

Kinetic Knights, 781, just posted their video and I wanted to say that I was impressed. It was really well done and it made all the information easily understandable. I wish I had the ability to do something that well made.

If you haven't seen it you can find it here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA-DmKwD9k8&feature=youtu.be

As many have said already, 781's video really amazed me. Super creative, and I can tell that a lot of effort went into it. :)

781's Chairman's video is by far the best one I've ever seen! How exactly was this made? Did you guys use a special program or just lots of hard work and time?

I talked to a few of their members about it. I was a bit giddy about meeting them since I was so excited about their video.

IIRC, they took like 10 hours to film the whole thing and then they had to do the voice overs. So yeah hard work and time is the way to go. I'm also certain that having someone that can draw is a big part of it.

Thanks for the reply! 10 hours of work for just a 3 min video? They're really hard-working!
