Team 399, Eagle Robotics, is pleased to announce the 8th annual RoboProm held at the FIRST Championship in St. Louis Missouri!

The event was started by the students of Team 399 in 2007, who unfortunately had to miss their high school prom to attend the Championship event, but didn’t want to miss out on the experience. We are excited to continue the tradition, and make it better than ever.

Where: Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch, RoboProm Grand Ballroom, 315 Chestnut Street, St. Louis, MO
When: Thursday, April 24th, 2014 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Dress Code: Some people go semi-formal, some get fancy, and some like to get into pretty unique costumes. Whatever suits you!
Price: $20 pre-sale via our team website up until 4/19, $25 at the Championship event. Mentors and advisors chaperoning are welcome into the event for free.

We will be releasing one wave of 800 tickets starting today, March 26th. Once those sell out, tickets won’t be available for purchase until the second wave of 800 is released on April 13th, the day after the conclusion of week 7 events.

Link to buy tickets: http://www.team399.org/roboprom-2014/
Email for any questions or comments: roboprom399@gmail.com

This thread will be where all official updates will be announced! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

Note: RoboProm is put together by FRC Team 399: Eagle Robotics and is not an official FIRST Championship Event.

Just got my email from Team 399.

Happy to help host the RoboProm again this year! Giving out King and Queen is always a fun part of the evening, and it's awesome to see the FIRST community come together.

I'll be there, and depending on how Week 7 goes, will be crossing my fingers to bring 1923!

Well stay tuned, as we're talking about redefining the process for deciding King & Queen for this year so that it's not as random as it was in the past. There currently isn't a process for 'running' for the title, but we'll update you when we can!

(399 runs a great show, everyone. It's been a blast to work with their team's event manager. :) )

I hope to make an appearance this year, as I had such a good time last year. I will be sure to purchase tickets early though, I almost missed out last year.

Can't wait!

Of course I must include in my first championship experience the famous RoboProm from 399. Can't wait to see the amazing event Gabriel and the rest of 399 put on this year.

From the title on your picture album, I hope that we are still conducting RoboProm in the year 2103 :) [Don't go fixing it now..]

Great pictures, I love how the students feel free to dress up, come as they are, or wear a costume. It is part of the great time students have coming to RoboProm. No judgement, no pressures of a high school prom. So looking forward to see what people are wearing this year. Hope to see you there!

Can't wait to check it out. It has been talks in the SPAM Pit about this! I know I would love to chaperone our students and see what this is all about! :)

P.S. and I can relive my memories of missing Prom in 2002 for World Championship at Disneyworld. :)

We'll be answering frequently asked questions, such as yours, over the days leading up to the event.

To your first question, there isn't a "normal" attire. You will find several people dressed well in tuxes and dresses. With the large amount of people dressed in costumes, duct tape suits, and LED lined dresses, "normal" isn't a thing at this event. :) Dress how you want!

There will be snacks and drinks to go along with the music and dancing. The event is still in the planning stages, so if more activities come along, it will be announced in this thread along with the RoboProm page on our team website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an event for FIRST volunteers, too?
This event is primarily for current FIRST students. The amount of tickets we sell is chosen based on the maximum capacity of the ballroom we have booked. That number considers the students attending, the mentors that will be chaperoning them, and the individuals that are required to run the event.

How many mentors are allowed into the event per team?
We don't set a certain ratio of mentors per number of students. However, we do allow mentors in with the primary intent of chaperoning their team. We haven't had any issues in 7 years of hosting this event, but we expect the chaperons to help if anything out of the ordinary occurs.

I will continue to add FAQs over the next few days!

Chaperones are free, but do they need a ticket that is free, or do they just come in? Do they count towards the 1600 person limit?

Just trying to count tickets needed.

Thanks!

They are allowed to simply enter without any sort of chaperon ticket. You only need to purchase tickets for the students attending. The 1600 ticket limit considers students only. The max capacity limit is a safe number above that :)

Is there a place where we can find out how many tickets are left?

Is there a place where we can find out how many tickets are left?

You can ask me! Our school accountant wasn't able to set up the paypal with any sort of "in stock" type of deal to give live updates on how many tickets were left.

We have sold 302 tickets, which is ahead of last year's sales pace.

For those who are waiting to buy tickets, keep in mind that last year during the week before champs, we sold the tickets at an average rate of 115/day. If that rate increases as we expect it to, they are looking to sell out much, much sooner.

Plan ahead! Get tickets before it is too late!

This year for RoboProm, attendees will be able to nominate themselves for RoboProm court!

How it works:
Students will email a picture or video of themselves with a description on why they think they deserve to make RoboProm Court to RoboProm399@gmail.com. A panel of judges will then review the submissions and choose three females for queen court, and three males for king court. All king and queen nominees will be asked to sign in at the event. The final king and queen will be decided and announced at the event.

When it’s happening:
Submissions are open as of now Friday, April 11th 2014, and will continue until Saturday, April 19th 2014 at 6:00 PM Pacific Time.

If students wish, they may post to our Facebook event page, and to Twitter about their submission with #RoboProm. All negative or hateful comments will be deleted from posts. Group submissions will count as multiple separate individual submissions.

Good luck!

Awesome, but can mentors and/or Chaperones submit/nominate king and queen? or is this just student based only?

Mentors and chaperons can nominate! Just remember that the student will have to sign in at the event if they are chosen as one of the final three.

Yesterday, our sell count was 433.

1,167 are left as of now, but are selling at an increasing rate.

Edit: That number didn't include today's ticket sales. The actual number sold is 765.

Important note about RoboProm ticket sales!

Due to a complication outside of our control, we are being forced to cut off pre-sale tickets at 1,400. We will sell the final 200 tickets at the championship event, first come, first serve.

We hope this doesn't inconvenience any one.

We are still looking forward to the greatest RoboProm yet!

A couple important reminders:

Tickets sold at the championship event are $25.

Ticket sales/pick up will be held in the courtyard with the large FIRST banner. The map posted earlier in the thread shows where!

We'll be there on Wednesday from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, and Thursday from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Don't forget your receipt!

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, we were not able to purchase tickets for RoboProm because they ran out before we got to the front of the line. However, some members of my team (including myself) were really hoping to go. If you or anyone you know has extra tickets, PLEASE inbox me! We would need 3 or 4 tickets but if you just have one that would help. We are willing to pay $25, so you would get a 5 dollar profit if you prepurchased. This means a lot so if you aren't deadset on going please tell us!
Thank you so much!

brentyi

One of 846's members is also looking for a ticket, and would also be willing to pay $25+ for it.

(probably also looking for a date, preferably female... but I haven't been asked to help him find one so not making any promises)

If interested, please call our mentor Mister Fernando, or ask for Srinjoy in our pits in Newton.
Fernando's number is (650) 483-1030. Yes, he does check his messages.

EDIT: He got his ticket, still no date!

We just need ONE more ticket! If you have just ONE extra ticket, or if someone in your party dropped out, please text/call me at 916-803-9905 or message me here. We'll pick it up and pay at the event or somewhere nearby if we have to.
