It seems like now would be a good time to make one of these threads with only one competition left. Ignoring teams going next week as their second event and next week's chairman's winners, here's the list of teams qualified by DCA:

1718 33
2771 503
1023 548
2137 1711
1506 280
2337 68

According to the FiM unofficial ranking spread sheet (www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127392), these teams will likely qualify by points (again ignoring next week):

2337 107 67 314
4967 33 2054 27
1023 469 1718 2137
3098 494 548 862
3602 4391 3620 74
857 2851 51 503
70 5114 815 68
573 4819 4362 2959
2474 4988 3604 2619
4956 1918 3688 1711
2771 3618

Here's the EI and RAS list:

1023 470
4377 2337
3602 27
302 857
2771 548
141 1
5073 5086
4967 5114
4988 4961
5155 5230
4956 5090
5173 4998

The FiM ranking sheet assumes 80pts as the cut off, but I think it will be a little bit lower and others will get in. Also, it looks like there will be at least twice as many rookies there compared to last year's two. Any predictions on winners and awards?

Have there been any announcements relating to the blog post about new award quantities (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/blog-District-Award-Allocations-and-Kickoff-Taping)?

Are you including the ones who won RAS and Rookie Inspiration? IIRC, no rookie competed with robot at MSC in 2013, though they did compete for awards.

857 is pumped to not be the 64th invited team!

No, RAS winners compete for RAS, but they do not bring a robot to compete with. RI only gives points. I thought I remembered there being no rookies last year, but http://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2013micmp says that there were two.

Actually, upon closer inspection, the two rookie teams on that list are the RI and RAS winners, and they aren't in any matches, So there weren't any rookies there. This year there should be at least 4 actually competing with a robot.

I'm not sure about last year, but in year's past, there are more rookies that qualify to compete with their robot than actually compete. Often times, they do not expect to get that far, and as such, are not prepared to compete, whether financially or otherwise.

To be honest, we are stilling working on it. It's spring break for Fenton that week, and since we didn't start out team until kickoff, many of the students and parents will be out of town, having already made reservations long before that. But we'll see.

Last year no rookies qualified at all, which was a first for FiM. But in years past, not just rookies, but also veteran teams pass up a opportunity at MSC, because of the cost.

Unfortunately it looks like 3414 will not make it down this year. We had a fun season but did not accumulate enough points.

Although with all of the fun that happens there, I may try to stop by and watch some matches. Good luck to all teams that make it.

we've been told the cutoff will likely be 75pts, +/- 2pts.

We're currently sitting at 75 points. Little bit nervous, lol. Hoping we get to go though!

We're still a bit short on field resetters and safety glass attendants for Wednesday night of MSC. Is anyone willing and able to help? Please send me an e-mail at lisaperez [at] gmail [dot] com if so. Thanks :)

It's awesome to see 7 Rookie teams advancing on, compared to zero last year...

What's so amazing is that there are like 30-40 teams that are good enough to be at least 1st picks and many of them won't even be in eliminations.
I think this year MSC champs might actually be pretty close to IRI in competitiveness.
I really look forward to compete with so many great teams.

Congrats! You guys were a blast to play alongside at Howell, and it wouldn't be the same without y'all!

I'm surprised we qualified (my college roommate and I had predicted 80 points would be the cutoff), but the surprise was definitely a pleasant one. That said the level of competition will be absolutely brutal D:

Still, it's a chance to pick up one more spirit award this year. Can't wait to cheer with you all :)

#6- 2054-70-494
#7- 1918-1023-2137
#8- 4967-548-314

Here's my risky predictions coming from a FIRSTer from NY who's not completely tuned into the Michigan scene. Based on the game, I decided a really good, smart team would seed on top, but not the ones everyone expects. They'd then pick 67 because 67 is incredible.

The whole list is hard because any of these teams could win most other regionals on their own. I tried to put robots that sort-of fit together together (like 469- an amazing trusser and 33- an awesome power forward). I also thought you'd see a rookie alliance captain- so I chose 4967, my pick for the rookie all-star award for MiCMP this year.

If any of this actually happens, I'd be very surprised. :)

... nevermind.

I'm willing to bet that the most of the alliance captains and first picks are in elims, but none of them will be allied with the one you specify.

Oops! That's a New England team. I meant 314, but then I saw later that I didn't have them in there... Nevermind. That was dumb.

Adjusted slightly.
That was one of the less intelligent things I've said on Delphi lately. And that might be saying something.

Good luck to all the awesome teams going! Going to be a great competition. 1684 got knocked down incredibly low due to an unfortunate match schedule at our first two districts. Of course we do great and almost knock off the #1 seed alliance with HOT and NC Gears (that dang auton... to be fair, we probably would have lost the third match) at our third district. Also a shame that 3535 didn't make it either, barely hit the cutoff.

Here's my go at it.

#1 2337-1718
#2- 33-910
#3- 67-469
#4- 314-3098
#5- 1023-3539
#6- 494-70
#7- 2137-68
#8- 2054-1918

I'm not even going to attempt to come up with the second picks.

2337 will seed very high due to their ability to get assist points, picking 1718
33 and 910 won Troy together
Everyone knows about the 67 and 469 alliance
314 and 3098 seem like they'd go well together
1023 and 3539 also go well together
Martian double combo nearly won Bedford together
2137 and 68 fit well together
2054 and 1918 are the West Michigan wombo combo

100 points in 3 matches sounded like a lot. So I got curious.

Unfortunately I cannot take you up on your offer of an in person review as I am not at MSC. However the FiM Youtube account has posted video of almost all of the matches and all 3 of 67's matches so I can review from my couch. Here's a cycle-by-cycle account of all possessions I see in the video and the expected assist counts.

Match 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOX73Qje_gY) - Cycle 1 - 51 in Red, 67 in Blue and white - 2 Assists
Match 1 - Cycle 2 - 51 Red, 2851 Red, 67 Blue - 2 Assists
Match 1 - Cycle 3 - 51 Red, 2851 Red, 67 Blue - 2 Assists
Match 1 - Cycle 4 - 51 Red, 2851 Red, 67 Blue - 2 Assists
Match 1 - Cycle 5 - 2851 Red, 67 Blue - 2 Assists
Match 14 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ3_9wFrWtg) - Cycle 1 - 4819 Red, 3539 Red, 3539 White, 67 Blue - 3 Assists
Match 14 - Cycle 2 - 4819 Red, 3539 Red, 3539 White, 67 White, 67 Blue - 3 Assists
Match 30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ6H9XknBl8) - Cycle 1 - 3534 Blue, 3534 White, 67 Red - 2 Assists
Match 30 - Cycle 2 - 3534 Blue, 3534 White, 67 White, 67 Red - 2 Assists

Total Expected Assist points: 130
67 Assist Points in Ranking Table: 130

What'd I miss?

EDIT: I will note that the first and last cycles only showed goal lights for a single assist. The last cycle was completed as time expired so the assist may have been entered. I presume the first cycle was corrected based on my total matching the total in the rankings table.

You are correct. I made an error in my calculations, I was double counting the first assist. I was a very long day.

Unfortunately we have only ourselves to blame for the situation we are in.

So I apologize to the refs, they are scoring correctly.

WE will try to get our act together tomorrow and get our heads back in the game.

Going to sleep before I screw something else up today.

Adam I feel the same way right now and it is very frustrating. I know that the refs are not perfect and they are human but some huge mistakes are being made.

We should have won match 18 but it was counted as a lose due to some bad judgments.
-469 was called for a penalty for "possessing an opponents ball" when the opposing human player clearly threw it into 469's robot
-During that same cycle we had clearly done three assist which was only counted as 2. This had mad a total of a 40 point swing so we lost.
-I had reviewed the match multiple times and had never seen a ref raise a flag. I understand there could have discussion afterward but there was not clear indication of a ref raising concern.

The cycle that starts at 1:37 is where all of this went down

-469 was called for a penalty for "possessing an opponents ball" when the opposing human player clearly threw it into 469's robot
-During that same cycle we had clearly done three assist which was only counted as 2. This had mad a total of a 40 point swing so we lost.
-I had reviewed the match multiple times and had never seen a ref raise a flag. I understand there could have discussion afterward but there was not clear indication of a ref raising concern.

The cycle that starts at 1:37 is where all of this went down
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sz6YgvPepU

I thought that too but rewatching it I think we get called for possesion midway through the match (at 1:50 of the video) when we bump the opposing alliance ball to the corner. The center ref raises the flag about 5 seconds later and walks to a touchscreen and enters the penalty.

I see it now that you pointed it out but I don't necessarily agree with the call. It was bumped one time and the opposing robot happened to eject the ball as 469 was driving forward. All in all it is not a big deal its just something that has to be dealt with and move on from it.

Bummer... I didn't notice that assist was missed in the heat of the moment.

http://youtu.be/0sz6YgvPepU?t=1m32s

1:38 Inbound to 3175
1:52 Pickup by 5162 in blue zone
2:02 transfer to 469 (5162 and 469 both in white zone)
2:16 469 scores in red zone

Still would have lost due to the foul, but getting credit for those assist points would have softened that blow.

We can only hope that future games give the refs much, much less to do.

You could not pay me enough to be ref for this game. It has to be a completely thankless and and incredibly difficult job. With the level of defense being played and the speed the game is being played, making fair and consistent calls would be beyond my capability.

Congrats to 51, 68, 1189, 2834, 3602, and 4391 for having perfect autos on both sides in match 106.

Based on twitter data, this is only the second time it's happened, the other being in the eliminations at southington.

Thanks Joe for that information. I didn't even notice it during the match. That was an insane match. Our partners 51 and 68 were great. We did four cycles of 50 points (3 assist, high goal and truss) and we got the another 10 truss points with a few seconds left. The score was 285 to 178. Our opponents were very good too. Our robot played very strong defense against them to slow them down just enough.

Hi FMI, I made a program to graph the teams ranks in the state championship. I didn't get the first 2 hours of matches on Thursday because of some bugs I had to sort out . The ranks are scanned every 5 minutes not every match because I didn't have enough time to implement it. The easiest way to find your team is to find the rank you were at the end of the day and follow that line on the graph.
Graph is here (http://i.imgur.com/CBgTMss.png)

Uploaded a couple things MSC viewers may be interested in. One is a Miner-style graph of the various OPRs of all the teams. Another is a standings projection. All matches within 20 pts considered a tie, projection may never be 100% because of that, but without this feature, it'll never be close. Though in this case, the matches have been far too close for OPR to be at all useful (these friday night projections are the only time I'd ever use OPR as a team competing at an event, and even then, not as the only tool).

Someone should check the driver station logs for QF 1. It looked like teleop was started early, messing up 1718's and 67's auto. There might be some other reason why they both missed the same way, though.

EDIT: Never mind, looks like they are calling a replay due to a field fault.

Anybody care to explain whats going on with 67 & 1718 auton? It seems weird that those two teams who have the strongest autonomous in this competition IMO would start having problems as soon as they get into elimination rounds. If someone has any info please share

It was just explained on the broadcast. To iterate, for some reason ~1.5 seconds into autonomous mode, the FMS switches from autonomous mode to teleop mode for a split second. After a few milliseconds, the field switches back to autonomous, however the drive encoders on both 1718 and 67 reset themselves, so they drive forwards farther than usual. This makes them miss their shots because they are too far forwards now.

I'll try to find another post about this, I recall 254 having the same issue.

Once again the FiM/PBS MSC broadcast did not disappoint. I can't believe you guys haven't gotten at least NBC Sports to show your coverage. :) Dave's encyclopedic knowledge of FRC teams is impressive, even when he guesses he's right (74 did win a regional Chairman's Award). You guys really do strike the perfect balance of showing the competition and selling the program.

I was doing my taxes, so I missed out on the autonomous issue early in the regional. Since this has happened before, hopefully HQ fix it before the Championship.

Watching the winning alliance play was a real treat. 27 was definitely MVP of the final rounds, no one could get by!! I heard several people lament that 33 didn't have "real wheels" early in the season, but they definitely showed off their omnis today, breaking t-bones like the defense wasn't even there. 314 rounded out a stellar group, handing off the ball like nobody's business.

Do the right people know about the issue? Reporting the issue is the first step to solving the problem. Pedestal lighting and hot goal timing was a known issue at week 0 events, but somebody told me FIRST didn't know it was an issue until a few weeks later (although they still haven't fix it:rolleyes: ).

Congratulation to 27, 33, and 314. WOW, what a shutdown alliance!

Never have we been so completely defended. Our alliance seem to be paralzed trying to run our offense. 27 was the MVP, but 314 was the unsung hero... to get that machine at that pick is ricidulous. We were just hoping they would continue to go overlooked until the 24th pick. The defense kept us so occupied 33 was able to do what they do best...score! (and mix in some D)

Congrats to the Chairman's Award Winners 33, 68, and 503.

Thank you to 1718 for selecting us and 74 for playing a huge part of our alliance. It was a tough fight to get to the finals, I wish we (67) could have done more to get us to all the way to the top.

Finally, a HUGE congratulations to Lori Gleason for winning the WWFA! The HOT Team would not be what it is without Lori's incredible passion and dedication. Lori (& Rodney) are the glue that holds this entire team together. We are all so happy for you!

Thank you to everyone for the kind words. Team RUSH has been fortunate to come away with a lot of silver recently, but this gold is something else. I woke up this morning still not entirely sure it had happened.

To all teams that played at MSC, whether it was in qualifications or the elims, thanks for putting on a great show.

To 1023, 3539, and 573, it was great playing against you. Congrats to 3539 on the KPCB Entrepreneurship award as well. Despite being a "low seed," this alliance had contender written all over it. And let's be real, any time you're going up against an alliance featuring one of the Copiolis behind the glass you'd be foolish not to be nervous.

2337, 469, and 2834, between 2337's great driving, finishing and trussing, 469's nearly unstoppable truss shots and finishing, and 2834's inbounding, you guys were a terrifying alliance to face.

Teams 1718, 67, and 74, looking at the opposite end of the field and seeing your three teams lined up against us had us all on the edge of their seats. Seeding number 1 at MSC was an insane challenge, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thought 1718 didn't thoroughly earn it, and THEN you selected arguably the best finishing robot in FIRST in 67. The fact that a team the caliber of 74 was the final pick speaks to the tremendous depth of the competition.

Last but not least, thank you to our partners 33 and 314. 33 proved that you don't have to muscle your way through scrums to be successful, and played some of the best defense I've seen with 4 omnis on the ground. 314, you NEVER should've fallen to us, but I couldn't have been happier you did. Our data had you going in the first round, if not to the 7th or 8th seed on the way back. Put simply, you guys were a tank and wreaked havoc on our opponents, all while inbounding and passing masterfully and running picks for 33 and ourselves. We took our play to a whole new level in the finals, and executed with incredible precision.

I'm incredibly proud of both our drive team and team as a whole for our performance on and off the field, leading to a championship and state Engineering Inspiration award. This was arguably the best weekend for our team in our history, and we could not be more excited to head to St. Louis in 2 weeks alongside many of you.

Thanks you, and good luck to everyone.

What a weekend...congratulations to 27, 33, and 314. I was prepared to face defense in the elimination rounds at MSC (especially as the number 1 alliance), but your alliance put a whole new definition to defense.

Thank you to our alliance partners 67 and 74 for playing with us. It was great to finally get a chance to play with 67 in eliminations instead of having to go against you! You guys have a tremendous machine. It goes to show the depth of MSC that we were able to get a team the caliber of 74 as a 24th pick. You guys did a great job for us. Congratulations to 33, 68, and 503 on your Chairman's Awards and to 27 for EI...I'm in awe of what your teams are able to accomplish. Also congratulations to 3539 for your Entrepreneurship Award - it's so great to see a team we helped start see success. I'm amazed at what your team has been able to accomplish in such a short period of time.

Lastly, thanks to the FTA's for their work in trying to fix a difficult situation with the field faults in the quarterfinals...I know you guys were as frustrated as we were with what was happening. I appreciate that you took the time to explain to us what was going on (or at least as much as you knew).

I think my favorite thing about MSC (2014's, since the thread title doesn't mention the year) was that 3 of the 4 UP teams there have qualified for St. Louis.

Good luck 857, 3602, and 4391!

I hear the Red Knights were light on their feet back in the day.

MSC was a great competition. I have had a bit of Love/Hate watching Aerial Assist as qualifying at most Districts has been rather boring. At MSC, most of the qualifying matches felt like elims. Very high quality of play and really exciting to watch. I wasn't sure that there was much headroom for MSC Elims to ramp up too, but boy was I wrong. Between Alliance #1 taking the long way to get to the finals to the exciting defense that lead to the eventual champions, MSC was a real treat to watch.

The special will air on May 13th, according to my sister who was on the crew at the event. From what I hear, it sounds very good!

As a senior my final MSC was an absolute blast, although I sat in our pits all of Friday and Saturday. It was cool meeting some new people from 469 and 308 over the weekend! Even though we were not picked for eliminations (first time since 2010), I loved watching them all, it really showed how exciting Aerial Assist can be.

Congratulations to 27, 33, and 314 on some incredible elimination matches, and a well deserved win! 27 and 33 is an absolutely Killer pair, and 314 brought the whole alliance together!

Also, congratulations to everyone on 68 for your Chairman's Award! You're a team I've always looked up to, with some awesome mentors and students, wish you luck in St. Louis!

Although the whole team isn't going to Worlds this year, I'll be watching from home rooting for all of the awesome and deserving Michigan teams that made it! Let's hope we'll get a third HoF team in Michigan, as well as some teams who come back as World Champions!

Thanks for the shout out! It was an amazing experience working with you guys as well! If we could've had that counter-defense in the finals, we could've pulled it off. Overall it was an amazing weekend that saw many teams not make it to eliminations that i'm sure deserved to be there.
