We just got our invites, but I didn't see a thread on it, so I though I'd start one.
Who's excited for the Autodesk PNW District Championship?

AAAAAAHHHHH! The anticipation is killing me!
The event is going to have some amazing robots, and it going to be everyone's first district championship.
Its going to be great! :D
PS. To OP, you better bring your hat!

PS. To OP, you better bring your hat!
It's on. Literally.

My hat is on too. Figuratively.
I'm also really exited because we found that our shooter clutch wasn't releasing all the way, which was making our shot less powerful and more inconsistent.
Once we fixed that yesterday, we took a full court shot into the high goal. Literally. Full 50 ft.

Portland is going to be such an EPIC event! 64 of the top teams in the NW is going to make some of the most exciting matches I think we've ever seen in the NW.
2 weeks can't come soon enough.
I can't wait for this event. Our team has had two successful events in a row and now we are ready to continue that streak. I'm not sure how we feel about Chairman's since I haven't had much to do in awards other than the video which I finished last week.
The one thing I can't wait to do is figure out how to make a highlight reel for this event. I'm hoping that the size of the venue doesn't make the video feel too all over the place.

The Skunks are back and are looking forward to mixing it up with the best of the NorthWest.
Good luck to everyone!!

Here's an estimate of who's in and out for the district championship.
This is not authoritative in any way and there are some caveats:
-This does not take into account chairman's award winners
-This does not take into account rookie points
-Assumes that everyone who's invited will attend
Key

~out=probably won't have enough points
bubble=could easily go either way

Yes, good to see that someone is paying attention. :) This is what happens when you just slap together a silly python script.

If you prefer, you can also see the list specifically at this link:
http://district.firstwa.org/PNW/2014/PNCMP (or by using the event results tab).
Since it is public information now, I can say that we invited 40 teams yesterday. All have accepted except for 2411, 4450 and 4918. We will release the rest of the invitations after the results of the final event are final. (We should be showing the numbers at the end of the awards ceremony at OSU, but I don't guarantee it)

How did you sort the list of teams that have been invited? I'm not asking how you determined who was invited but the order they are listed on the DCMP page as it does not seem to follow any reasoning, it is not by team number, alphabetical order, or current points total.

It looks like every team down to rank 38, with 69 points. The 2 below that are both chairman's award winners.

I think he is asking specifically about within that page, what order are they sorted by. The answer is random. Normally, the event detail pages will sort by performance from that event. This means that a team playing a third event will still show what they *would* have received from that event (even though it doesn't count in the total rankings). However, unlike the main rankings, we do not use the tie-breaker criteria within the event detail pages. There is no particular reason other then that it doesn't matter what order they finish on that page, since the tie breakers only apply to the overall rankings. So it will default to the 10th sorting level, random sort. Until teams start to accumulate points from that event, it will just be a big pile of team numbers.
We will be releasing some changes on Thursday that will improve the overall readability of certain things, like "upcoming" events, but for now we aren't planning on any changes to that sorting order for "upcoming" events.
As you identified in an earlier post, the teams will only show on that page when FIRST HQ confirms they have completed the registration process for the event.
I think he is asking specifically about within that page, what order are they sorted by. The answer is random.
Yes that was what I was wondering about and now that you put it that way it makes perfect sense that they are random to avoid more coding that would sort them in a manner other than the sorts used in ranking.
Thanks again for all your hard work putting this together, entering the data and keeping us up to date with the changes.

I can't wait! We are super excited to be going!
What is the overall capacity for this event? I've been under the impression that it'd be ~60 teams, but I could be making that up. If so, are the remaining 20 teams expected to come from teams competing this weekend?

We have a full slate of 64 teams that we will be invited to the District Championship. The first 40 invitations were released to teams that were mathematically guaranteed (have scored high enough) that, regardless of results of week 6, they would have still been invited. The District Chairman's teams were also invited, since they are guaranteed. It doesn't necessarily mean that the remaining ~20 are all coming from the OSU event, but rather that the results of OSU *could* change the rankings enough that it would change which teams would qualify for those remaining invitations. In all likelihood, a team (or teams) who don't play at OSU (and aren't already invited) could still be invited, but we can't invite them until they are guaranteed the position.

I am excited!! It will be so much fun!! :)
Also, this program is so cool (I didn't quote the whole thing, it got rather long). It's seemingly quite accurate!! What language did you use?
Now that we know how many points everyone got I can speak on the accuracy of the program. Here's how it did:
March 26 Predictions: (In the thread about the district championship website)
Predicted Actual In Actual Out
bubble 19 23
in 10 0
out 0 19
~in 33 0
~out 2 47
March 31 Predictions: (The ones in this thread)
Predicted Actual In Actual Out
bubble 2 10
in 39 0
out 0 65
~in 21 2
~out 2 12

Impressively accurate. Definitely something to share again next year.
Have fun you guys, from 2929 we'll be sure to watch the stream and cheer all of you on. :)
It's a shame for 3237 and 2980 that they still got in the Top 64 yet weren't qualified. Those Chairman Awards can really scramble the 60's.
Good luck to all of you!

Looks like (http://district.firstwa.org/PNW/2014) 2550 and 4513 declined today.
Invitations were extended to 3237 and 2980.

Dang, we owe them a digital sidecar

I was very disapointed that 2550 declined their invite. We played well together.

Why did 2550 decline? This makes me sad.... They were pretty good.

I agree. For the last 3 years now they've been a one event team though. I really hope it isn't a money issue.

I hope its not as well. Well even though my team did not make it i will be their watching.
-on a side note Navid Shafa want to expand your shirt collection?

I am always looking to expand on my shirt collection, but I don't think I'll have any shirts with me to trade in Portland unfortunately. Perhaps another time.
However, come find me there. I'd love to chat with you about how you run your team. I'm interested to hear more about how you prototype and design as well as your swerve experience this year.

I'm so exited!
With the main festivities starting tomorrow, I was going to post a teaser video. Unfortunately, I was to lazy to get the raw footage. So I won't. #123ballauto;)

As of right now we are still sitting at 63 registered teams of the 64 capacity. Looks like 3237 isn't registered yet and has also yet to decline.

And it begins!! It's just like watching a division at Worlds, except that you explicitly know every single team competing :)

Is it just me or is the video feed offline?
not just you, the video feed is offline. That said the USTREAM site appears to be back online right now so that's better than it was a bit ago.

Two buzzer beaters in a row. If you aren't watching the PNW eliminations, you are missing out!

There were quite a few cliff hanger matches that made them very exciting to watch. The overall level of competitiveness was certainly higher than anything we've seen in the PNW to date.

Does anyone have good scouting data on drivetrains from this event? I'm hoping to identify who had "non-traditional" drivetrains, ie something other than drop center AWD:
Swerve: 2471
Straight Mecanum:
Octocanum:
Butterfly:
Other: 1425 (kiwi? not sure exactly what theirs is)

Yes, I believe it's 6-CIM Kiwi.

We have the full list from pit-scouting, I'll get a student to post it here.
