Team 4276 uses rotation-to-translation converters, similar to your "wheels."

Agreed. I'd thought we'd be in the lead with 14 Banebots wheels. I was so wrong...

I feel as though this thread is demeaning and discriminatory towards robots like ours which employ tank treads as a mode of transportation instead of wheels. I'm disappointed that the FIRST community could be so blatantly offensive to segregate robots by those with wheels and those without.

This, of course, is assuming that we're talking about wheels that directly contact the ground rather than all wheels (including those acting as a pulley). If it includes all wheels, I see no issues here.

Depending on your definition of wheel, 256 may have had some. Ours weren't perfectly round, but instead were made up by a near infinite amount of small straight lines, so that's somewhat similar.

703 here with 16 wheels (I assume we're also counting collectors).

Just in drivetrain, 271 has twelve wheels! Well, we combined them two at a time with a lathe and some seat of the pants engineering to make six wheels, but so far its been unrivaled traction! Gotta love six two inch wide wheels with roughtop, plus six CIM's and two speeds.

Calling them wheels is demeaning to the decagons. Why on earth would anybody create a traction device that only contacts the ground with an (theoretically) infinitely small area? It's almost as dumb as slowing down motors so you don't drive as fast.

I know, and that sweet "clumpity clumpity clumpity" sound of a 4 decagon drivetrain going at full speed...

Im truly surprised no one has taken my idea yet.

Pfft... amateurs. Everyone knows hovering is the way to go - wheels are so last season.

Actually... could that possibly be done with a FIRST bot? I just nerd-sniped myself with my own troll. :yikes:

I know this thread is a joke but for the first time since 2009, Code Red did wheels. We were one of the last hold outs for tank treads but I think it's finally time to move on from that era. Wheels reporting in.

We noticed that at FLR, and were shocked! We're likely dropping octocanum next year, too.

Wheels: seven on ball intake, eight on octocanum, and if you count the mecanum rollers then a whole lot more.

Yay, wheels! We're in the club and get to hang out with Colin!

This thread cannot comment on specific designs and/or hypothetical situations. Please contact your Regional Director.
In related news, we have fourteen wheels. At our last event, ten of them contacted carpet in the final match.

3260 almost went with wheels but we decided that cubes would make us significantly faster. We also considered hexagonal prisms but they ended up being too expensive.

Our team employs wheels, but we also invested in a weather balloon to truly achieve the "aerial" aspect of aerial assist. We simply hold the ball and float over the truss! not really, we just have a standard kit bot with wheels!

A strandbeest design would be great. We're considering adding it that to our parade float with feet...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OvRAMyEBOc

But an "Asimo" computer controlled design would be cool too.

I'd also be interested to know if there was ever a game where a ball-wheeled robot would do well.
