View Full Version : Teams Missing from this Year's Championship
I was looking through the list of registered teams for Championships so far. I am really sad to see some of my favorite teams not on the list: 233- the Pink Team, 2474- Excel, and 2826- Wave Robotics are three teams that come to my mind quickly.
So I'm curious, who are some of the teams you follow who were not able to secure their ticket to St. Louis this season?

234 didn't make it for the first year since 1999. Really unfortunate, I was hoping for a chance to play with them.
1024 also built a great robot, but couldn't quite make it

I believe that 217 is not going this year.
217 won the Chairman's at the Buckeye Regional, qualifying them to attend.

They won Chairmans at Buckeye Regional, so they are going.
696 had an awesome robot this year but won't be attending.
Also, 316 from MAR won two district events this year but did not qualify.

South Carolina kinda took a statewide drubbing, with lots of its better-known teams (EnTech, Burning Magnetos, Metal In Motion, M'Aiken Magic, FLASH, Los Pollos Locos, ROBOTZ Garage) not punching a ticket. You don't necessarily expect all of them to make it, but you'd expect at least one of that group to find a way.
In fact, only three teams did find a way in the whole state: 1287 (Aluminum Assault, won NC), 4901 (Garnet Squadron, won Orlando), 4965 (FIRE, Palmetto RAS). Time to start working on 2015 so we can have more travel buddies.

1418 had good showings at both VARI and Greater DC making the finals in both but are unfortunately not going to the champs.
They have some match video on TheBlueAlliance.

The lowest points team had 168 points.

What was the point cutoff for MAR teams to qualify for CMP this year?
168, assuming nobody declines the invitation.
MAR is unique in that more than half of its allocated spots (11/18) were filled through award winners at the District Championship and at Regionals.

From Texas: we have many great teams (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127412&page=4)
These Texas teams really should be at champs:
231 (http://www.thebluealliance.com/team/231) had a unique and great robot with a two-ball auto, semi-finalist at both Dallas & LSR
4587 (http://www.thebluealliance.com/team/4587) - very impressive robot and shooter for a 2nd year team.

71 isn't going again that's the second time in the last three years. They had a great on the run shooter and a good 2 ball auto. Plus they were wicked fast.
125, won three districts, and a district chairman's award, and still didn't qualify for St.Louis.

They did quality, but last I knew they couldn't go for other reasons.
I don't know if they officially bowed out yet.
They were 1st pick 2 seed at district championship.

125 were ranked 9th among the 13 teams that qualified on points for World Championships from New England (8 qualified by awards + 3 winners).
Not all qualified team can go or choose to attend, so teams a little lower on points should be ready if they are extended an invitation (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128765)

125 like many teams in New England are working through the issue of traveling to St. Louis. Its not easy nor is it cheap and with the Boston Marathon bus companies are booked making it harder to get a coach bus.
I'm sure 125 will have more information on their current state but yes they did qualify but they haven't said yes or no officially but I believe they would go if they can get travel arranged.
Yeah, my bad on the "125 didn't qualify" part. The guy from their team I talked to was acting like that was the reason they couldn't go.
Regardless, that team and that robot belongs in St.Louis a little over a week from now.

Things are still up in the air. 125 DID qualify (even without points from 2 district wins and a DCA).
The season (5 events + 1 preseason) has been really long. On top of the cost to the team the robot has taken a beating (counting replays, we're at 100+ matches). Couple all this with short notice and it's putting strain on the team. Also realize that we are a really young team mentor wise. There's only a handful of us who could buy a beer, most of our mentors are freshman in college.
We're going. Come meet Dark Matter in St Louis.

2705 was IMO the most consistent shooter at 10K Lakes (of course, I'm a little biased), and would have competed with the best of them at championships had they qualified.

:( I always like hanging out with 1772 they were a riot to play with in Orlando 2013.
Wisconsin has several good teams that I'm sad to not see on the list, including 2826-Wave, 706-Cyberhawks, 1675-UPS, and 2062-CORE. They all had really solid robots, carried a lot of alliances, and are great teams to work with. I hope to see them at some local off-season tournaments and demos like the Rock-River Off-Season Competition, RoboFest, and Summerfest. Also, hopefully, IRI.

I'd add 2512 to the list-- they had a pretty solid robot and they're a great team. It's a shame they won't be at champs for the first time in three (if I remember correctly) years.
3130 also had a great robot this year-- they've been improving a ton over the last couple years, and o wouldn't be surprised to see them become regular visitors to champs within a couple years.
I'll also say that it's a crime 967 and 2826 didn't qualify. 967 was an incredible robot this year-- undefeated at North Star. Wave might have been battling problems with their bot, but I was stunned they didn't pick up a RCA or EI at one of their events, considering how strong their program is.

Not quite the same as the other mentions, but if 4988 had made it out of MSC (they were only like 7 points shy), then all 4 UP teams at MSC would have qualified for CMP. As it is, 3/4 are making it.

Team 2791 deserves a mention here. While they weren't much at Tech Valley due to various claw malfunctions and single joint arm gearbox problems, they were a monstrous trusser at Tech Valley- being 341's first pick and went out in the semifinals against the eventual champions.

The first ever PNW District Season certainly seems to have done a great job of recognizing teams this year. That being said, the level of play was extremely competitive both on and off the field. In fact the minimum point cutoff for World Champs was 164.
Although I think the system accurately rewarded teams as a whole, I think there is a single team in my mind that unfortunately won't be moving on:
Bear Metal, 2046 had 151 points by the end of District Champs. Just getting into eliminations or winning an award would have been enough for them to qualify. A team who came out of the gates week 1, not only winning the event, but Chairman's too, didn't make the cut.
I thought they might be 1 of 3 DCA winners. So I was even more surprised when they didn't win a single award. The robot itself, even when it saw issues was definitely at the least third alliance partner material.
It's a shame their season is done, but I know they'll be back at the top again next year!

Can certainly speak for the Circuit Breakers (696). They build some killer machines (3-ball-autonomous-anyone? From the PNW, two teams that had done exceptionally well in previous events did not end up qualifying for world champs. I would just like to recognize these two teams, 1425 Error Code Xero and 2046 Bear Metal. Both robots were really well constructed and were just unlucky at the district champs.
Great season to both of you! :)

This (http://www3.usfirst.org/whats-going-on/event/10747/teams?ProgramCode=FRC&sort=asc&order=Team%20Number) takes you to the list as well. Around some time last year FIRST introduced a second way to display information pulled off of TIMS that operated interdependently with the old one most people access through FRCLinks. Why that is the case/ I couldn't tell you.
Kind of a random question, but is anyone else's robot name completely wrong on that list. :(
Jed Clampitt? :ahh:
Not sure if that data is pulled from TIMS or if it is part of the dumb stuff you are supposed to know, like, before the build season starts for them to print in the programs.

They have some of the wrong information either way. "Jed Clampitt" was an idea for our robot name last year when it still had pneumatic clamps to climb the pyramid. We ditched the clamps and the name but it must have never changed in TIMS, or we forgot to update it. I remember the same thing happening in 2011 when the list used our 2010 name, ROBBIE, instead of our 2011, robot name, Magellan.

I'd like to throw Team SCREAM, 4522 in the mix. They are a second year team that put a lot of us veterans to shame. They gave Bomb Squad a run for their money in Arkansas and put in a great performance in KC as well. Not to mention that they had a fully functioning robot completed in week 3 of build season.
Keep an eye out for 4522.

Unfortunately we did not do well at MAR champs. We were plagued with electrical problems all season and by the time we fixed them all it was too late. Even if we did qualify there was a good chance we wouldn't have gone due to lack of funds.

I stand corrected! I couldn't be happier for such a deserving team. We are going to have some strong teams at Champs from Missouri.
From Hawaii, 2090, the Buff 'n Blue from Punahou need to make their debut at Championship soon. Of the seven years of the Hawaii Regional, they've been finalists five of them and they sported an awesome robot once again this year!

One team missing (for me at least) this year is 3132. This is the first time in their 5 year history they have not made it to champs.

Yes, 357 is in too. There's an ongoing discussion in the 2014 MAR Standings Thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127415&page=9) about this. We're pretty sure that 56 declined their invitation to St. Louis and that 357 got in from the waitlist. We still don't know how 75 qualified.
The unofficial standings (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AizgHBYEeVnwdDJVeFBzWTduazNLV3I2Skw5dlh4a FE&usp=drive_web#gid=4) contain information about who is registered to attend the FIRST Championship and is probably more helpful than the official standings you linked to.

Our shopmates 3130 put up easily thier best robot to date this year and they deserve to be there and they would do very well. Unfortunatly they weren't dealt the best hand this year.
