View Full Version : Xubuntu Driver Station: Possible?
So on my laptop, I dual boot Windows 8.1 and Xubuntu 14.04. I'd like to try running the Driver Station software under Xubuntu, even if it is through Wine. Is there a method to getting this working, or must I stay with Windows?

I haven't seen anything on running the driver's station software on linux for a while (check search), just remember that if I remember correctly only Windows is acually supported, so whatever rabbit hole you go down to get this working isn't likely to be one that NI/FIRST will support at competition.

If it isn't hard to try it out, please do so and post your results. I develop and frequently run on a Mac VM. The newer DS will have fewer Windows dependencies than the current one, but as mentioned, Windows is the supported platform.

Alright, I'm setting up Wine now and the DS software. Unfortunately it's going to be awhile until I can actually test, my team is offseason right now and I'm not in near proximity to the robot... that and it's hard to get into a school "just to test my laptop with our robot"

Understood. Just running the DS without a robot is a decent test. If you can add a joystick and see the LEDs light up takes it further. I'd be rather surprised if the Cypress board works, but test it if you've got it.

Someone on Chief Delphi got the Driver Station to run on Linux with WINE in the past. Here's a link.

There's also the open source Driver Station that I wrote a while back. It's working, but joystick support is still being explored. Joysticks are quite easy on Linux; the issue is just finding a cross platform way to get it to work. I might add Linux-only joystick support if I have time.
