My team is in need of a version control system for CAD this year (we are using Solidworks), and I just discovered this. It seems to be a lot easier than renting a VPS to run Solidworks PDM on. Have any teams used it in the past? How did it go?

I installed it a while ago, but it seems to be a dead project.

You could always install PDM on a regular computer and then VPN into the network it's located on whenever you're not colocated with the server computer.

I'll agree with this. Workgroup PDM is pretty good for FRC teams. I ended up getting an Amazon EC2 instance to run our server on and use S3 for the storage (with daily backups). It's not the cheapest, but it's extremely reliable.

You can get EC2 free for a year IIRC

For Solidworks PDM, which system requirements should I be looking at? The archive or the database server? Are the RAM requirements very strict?

I also noticed PTC Windchill was an option. Will it work with Solidworks 2014?

There's no reason to use a 3rd party program when PDMWorks is available.
