Operation: Code Clash (OCC) is a FREE team-based programing competition for high school students (grades 9-12). It takes place entirely on-line. The goal of Operation: Code Clash is to provide high school students with a fun yet challenging competition that is often only available at the university/college level.

Operation: Code Clash is different from most other competitions in that teams complete against one another on a virtual field of play. Teams are presented with a single mission – a game – and must create a program to play the game. In some ways, it is a virtual version of popular robotics competition formats such as FIRST Robotics Competition and is inspired by college-level competitions such as MIT’s Battlecode.

Team Sign-up is open NOW and more information is available on the website: operationcodeclash.org (http://operationcodeclash.org)

Kick-off is September 27, 2014 at noon EDT!!!

Feel free to ask questions here OR on the Operation: Code Clash forum available via the website.

While not limited to FIRST Robotics Teams, we’re sure there will be some “friendly” competition between the incredible programming talents on FRC teams throughout the US and Canada!!!

This looks like a fantastic idea. What programming languages will be required to create this game?

According to the FAQ, you can use Java or Python.

The team name can be changed on the team management page that can be accessed by either the team mentor or any students that have been marked as admins.

Due to popular demand, we have opened up the competition to all countries with participating FRC teams.

Can you add people later on? Like after the team has been created or the challenge released?

You can add people to your team at any time via the team management page, but you can only add up to 4 people. So if more than 4 want to be on your team, I suggest you make multiple teams.

I'm so excited to take part in this! When after kickoff might a list of the teams involved be released?

I'd also love to see if there will be any secondary awards (best commenting, cutest variable names, etc.). {I'd probably win most unnecessary uses of curly braces}.

Its great to see such enthusiasm for the competition! We will be releasing the list of teams competing on kick off day for public perusal.

I'd also love to see if there will be any secondary awards (best commenting, cutest variable names, etc.). {I'd probably win most unnecessary uses of curly braces}.

Sorry to say, we will not have any secondary awards this year.

Congrats to everyone competing. It looks like a lot of fun. For those of you who don't know, there are a plethora of these types of competitions in the collegiate level. At my school it's called minerai. It's a lot of fun, and a great networking opportunity.
