New FRC Regional in Australia!
Blog Date:

The rumors are true! We will have an official FRC Regional Down Under in the 2015 season. We couldn’t be more excited about this, or about helping our friends at Macquarie University, who honestly are doing most of the heavy lifting, make this happen. It will be a Week 3 event. Look for more details in the events listing: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/regional-events
The crack FRC Engineering team is currently working on dealing with the fact that water circulates in the opposite direction when draining in the southern hemisphere compared to the northern hemisphere.*

*It doesn’t, actually. Snopes! And 2015 will not be a water game.
Dont know if happy for regional in Australia or ruin thread by going off on a tangent about an official from FIRST confirming water game...
The other Frank started it... :]

Way to go 3132! I remember when some friends moved to Australia and started the FIRST FRC team down under and now to see the growth in FIRST programs and now a regional!
Next stop: districts. ;)

Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre looks like a decent venue (basketball court with bleacher seating). Hopefully this can stick around better than the Brazil regional event.
Immediately starts trying to figure out how to make a trip to Australia week 3 work....
All kidding aside, congratulations to the Australia FRC community on having your own event. This is insanely awesome! I know a bunch of us in New England are excited to watch and will be cheering everyone on!

Frank is clearly telling us that next year we're all playing footy. Can't wait! :)

Glad this finally happened! They announced an Australian regional at the 2009 championship event as well, but it ultimately didn't materialize and [some portion of] the teams ended up competing in VEX, iirc. Guess my old school Australian regional shirt will become relevant again.

Wow. Its only 1000 miles extra to go to Sydney from Hawaii then to Chicago from Hawaii. Thats not alot further to travel for you guys.

Really cool to see this finally confirmed. It was awesome to get to work with 3132 and the other Australian teams last year! Truly world class programs, best of luck to all!

Glenn, it is fantastic to hear that you and the Kids will be in attendance supporting a new Antipodean regional! You are true ambassadors of FIRST! I can also confirm that while Team Tators has not yet confirmed their air travel, there is a 00.01% chance we will be there...:) (so wish we could go....)

Little bit of a thread necro, but huge congrats to everyone that's making this happen - it's this coming weekend! This event might have the most competition for the rookie awards for any event in a long time - does anyone know what the highest portion of rookie teams has been at an event since '92?

100%, Israel '05. All 12 teams were rookies in the very first Israel Regional.

All the 1500- and 1600-block teams at that regional had at least one event already under their belts, some two with one being the 2005 Championship. TBA doesn't have the 2005 Israel Regional Pilot (http://www.usfirst.org/whats-going-on/event/1322/teams?ProgramCode=FRC).
