DIY IR beacon?

Hello everyone. When we got our building kit, an IR beacon was not included. I have looked online and purchacing one is too expensive. So we have turned to DIY (do it yourself).

What we need is instructions a DIY IR beacon and sensor. Could someone please help us out?

I don't know electronics so good, but I know a few places that do!
