Hey gang...
I'm in charge of AV and whatnot (miscelanous items, not the T190 mascot ;)) for BattleCry 2 and I was wondering what you'd like to hear... We all know that there are those songs that we know and love as FIRST Competition songs...
I know we've all talked about this before but this is a chance to directly affect the playlist for BC2... so...
What would you like to hear? What has to be played?
Let me know...

i would suggest ac-dc's 'big balls', but everyone was playing that at their pits at all the other competitions so its sort of lost its originality/humor

You've gotta play Jellyhead! Cause they didn't except @ the party in LongIsland.. and it was definitely what we talked about the whole way there.
Tony Basil's "Mickey" for our very own Timmy Baird
The techno mix of the Hamster Dance for WhatNot
Lynard Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama" cause it reminds me of Kuli & FIRST
"Wild Wild West" for Kato
And 'Ready to Go' by Republica..
Hahaha.. you should just play all of those, regardless of who they are for though.
Woohoo... I know 'DJ Ed' so I can harass him now about what to play!! :P

It wouldn't be a FIRST Competition if I didn't hear "We Like to Party".....
Matt who heard "We Like to Party" at every single match at Nationals in 2000
Jessica Boucher
08-06-2001, 09:26
Definetley "Big Balls, "We like to party", and "Ready to go"...and "Cotton Eyed Joe"...and all the others suggested
I'd like to add "People of the Sun" by Rage...trust me, you will never see a bunch of guys more pumped up over a song....
Also, the "Discovery Channel" song by Bloodhound Gang....ask anyone on 237 to teach you the "happy dance" to join in on line dancing at its best ;)
Also..."Mambo No. 5" and "Jump Jive n Wail" and "My Sharona" and I think its called "The Rockafella $@#$@#$@#$@#$@#" by Fatboy Slim ("Right about now...the funk soul brother", you know, that song ;) )...and "I like to move it, move it" (I have no idea what the name of that song is).....and "twenty twenty four hours to go.....I wanna be sedated"
If youre wondering how I found all these, I just basically scrolled through my "UTC 2000" tape and picked the ones I liked (or I could name)
lol, Jon is on IT staff ;) (Sorry, bad joke)
"The Sie-H2O-Bots are coming...and all of Worcester's jumping...we're here to start a party, and get a little rowdy....the wheels of FIRST are turning, and robot gears are burning.....so if you like to party, come on & move your body" ;)
COTTON EYED JOE (THE REAL VERSION)!!!!!
Mutiple Times!!
Throw a little Daft Punk in there......get things started right.

Whatever happened to Queen "We Will Rock You" that song has to be played by at any sporting event that involves competition. Also I would suggest some techno from the chemical brothers and my personal favortie and I know I'm getting hissed at for this but Nelly "Ride with Me."
;)
Matt Leese
13-06-2001, 15:36
"We Will Rock You" was even played at jousts! So it's been played at almost ALL sporting events....
Matt who went with his cousin to see "A Knight's Tale" because, well, she wanted to see it and he was bored.....

I love that song :)
And of course.. Cake's 'Sheep Go To Heaven' for your very own T190 :P

I've sat back long enough watching you guys put up the obvious songs. Time for the good stuff. Why listen to the same stuff you've heard for years at the FIRST comps when you can hear equally good songs that FIRST hasn't caught on to? With this in mind, might I suggest the ska rendition of "Come on Eileen" by Save Ferris? If you haven't heard this yet, log on to napster or whatever you use and find it asap. Also, we've all failed to mention "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol. Hey colleen, i think that we should just play the song and not sing along like at the CHS dances, there might be little kids around. On the same little kid note, do you think that we're all mature enough to hear "Hash Pipe" by Weezer, and my personal favorite "Buddy Holly".
Just some suggestions. Now for me to sound cocky. I can and will have all of these songs played by "DJ Ed" because he still owes me big time for not getting Reel Big Fish for quadfest this year, and for not inviting me last year.
Tim "who is still amazingly bitter about not seeing RBF at quadfest last year, and missing them this year because of Nats" Baird
Tim Baird

Not to rag on Mike O'leary for his above statement, but i would just like to clarify the music regarding the scene where they kicked the crap out of the copier in office space. That song is called "still" by the geto boys, and for reasons of their "vernacular" you might say, that songs should never be played at a FIRST comp for legal reasons. However, gangster tripping by fat boy slim is a very good song and I will second the motion to play it.
Tim
PS-Sorry if I sounded like I was lecturing, I just wanted to prevent a catastrophe. Watch the movie again and you'll understand why

Don't forget Spybreak! by Propellerheads from The Matrix Soundtrack, it's a great song for matches with a lot of action. It's a little too long (about 6 minutes), but you could cut it down.

I'm just curious, but, I can't seem to remember Billy Joel singing "Mony Mony", and if he did, I'm referring to having the Billy Idol song being played at the comp. But then again, I was only around for 8 of the 10 80's decade.

PS-If anybody can confirm the true artist of this classic song, please let me know because I'm going quasi-crazy now.

I did some more checking. Your right, it was Billy Idol. I don't know, I coulda sworn it was Billy Joel.
And Brandon is right about the orginal artist, but it was Billy Idol that made the popular remake.

Thanks to the confirmation and research (this was found on the link brandon put up ". . . story goes that Tommy saw the MONY (Mutual of New York) building and was inspired to write this song . . . I feel silly naming my daughter Mony now . . . remade by the idle hands of Billy Idol in 1981 . . . long before The Wedding Singer . . .")of both mpking and brandon, I can now go on living knowing that I'm not totally crazy. Now I can go back to enjoying this wonderful day knowing that I'm not stuck in my office like the previous 5 days of the week.

That would be Reel 2 Reel's "I Like to Move It" and The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated," respectively :-)
As for me. . . well, I'll be happy with any sort of old school rap . . . or Rammstein. Rammstein is cool, and loud, and would probably suit the competition. Who cares if you can understand a word they're saying?
Actually. . .I'll be happy as long as you promise not to play any Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, or anything else that's similarly saccharine.

I'm sorry...but I'm brought back to '99 and I remember a certain dance that was done by Michael and Mike Tria (another old teammate) to "Apache" by the Sugar Hill Gang. And I also rememebr Rammstein being played in the pits by my team. ::sigh:: memories.
As far as the teeny bopper music (sorry to anyone who's obsessed with those groups)...I heard them far too much at the regional competition. So, I wouldn't mind staying away from that.
Just my two cents. Hmm...if it's a penny for your thoughts, and I put in my two cents...where does the other penny go? Sorry...just had to ask.

yeah...ive thought of that too...seems like someones profitting off it.
as far as the teeny-boppers...heres my main problem with them (other then that the music is horrible): they dont play their own music, they dont write their own music, they dont write their own lyrics, and when they sing, their voices are altered tons so that what you hear isnt even them...so its never made sence to me: seems like all they do is sing the words, but they dont sing well enough to sell so they have to be altered.
and they call it music???
mike who feels obligated to add that no offence is intended to anyone who likes teeny-bopper music (:::shudders:::) - you can like youre music and ill question youre taste
You'd be surprised how truly talented some of the teeny-boppers really are.
Nsync really can sing, i've heard them sing acapella (another genera of music I really enjoy, yet didn't seem to fit very well in a competition playlist, but for your napster junkies, lookup Rockapella's rendition of Dave Matthew's Band Satellite, and keep in mind it's all human voices, no instruments), and they really have range, stlye, and rhytm.
Christina Aguilera really has range and talent I could not believe the sheer power of her voice, for the size of here, she's like 99 pounds.
Another good example, One of the singers from Eve's Crush (the new made for TV girl Band) was a band member of Day's of the New on the orginal record, before the lead singer broke it up.
Their popular songs may be written by song writers, but they do write there own material. (Some of KISS's songs were written by Michael Bolton!, and not all of Aerosmith's songs were thiers)
Back to the point, which is that these people are popular because of multi-million dollar marketing campaigns, but they still have to have large amounts of talent.

Napster really doesn't work anymore because of the lawsuits by Metallica and the music industry. (those idiots already have enough money) I have now since abondoned Napster and have turned to Morpheus to burn my own illegal CD's.
Ok, Apache by The Sugar Hill Gang has to be the most played out song at the J&J Mid Atlantic Regional. On thursday alone, i counted them playing that song 7 times, got annoying after awhile, but now i have that song stuck in my head, needless to say, i had to download it and play it aleast 3 times a day, lol, go figure.
Anyway, there is a techno song they played at a few of these regionals, manly Silicon Valley and Nationals, and i can't seem to figure out the name of it, and it's not sandstorm. It bearly has any words if any at all in it, but here's the beat in type:
(real fast) da da da da da da da da da da, (then) ba ba ba ba ba ba ba buh ba ba ba buh ba ba ba buh ba ba ba ba ba, and then so on, It's like real hard to describe it, but that's the best i can do. I go crazy if i hear a techno song somewhere and can't figure out the name of it.
Then there's a song that will always make me remember a specific moment during robotics (Def Leppard - Pour some sugar) that happend at Rutgers. It was the final matches last year and my team was in it, after the last match, it came to a tie, While we were waiting to find out who won, that song came on and after a few min, they announced our alliance as the winners. To this day when i hear that song, i remember that tense 10min of waiting of who won that match, and our alliance winning.

You have to get some good bass in there to wake up the crowd... check out "Theme From Wide Angle" by Hybrid and/or "Tao of the Machine" by BT. Good stuff for the middle of match number eleventyfive when everyone's starting to get a little burned out.
Oh yeah, also check "Stomp to my Beat" by JS-16. People may start dancing for some reason when you play this song. I don't know why. ;)
