I am a little later, about a year late. Does anyone know if they are doing a MakerBot 3D Printer lottery or another way to get a cheap MakerBot. Also I saw old posts about US FIRST CHOICE, what is that and is it still joinable?

The 3D printer lottery ended back in January (We got a Cube printer from it). That said, it's possible they will open another such lottery for teams this year.

I've also heard of teams getting Makerbots through their education grant process, though I'm not sure of the details of this.

Ekocycle had a 3D printer program (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ekocycle-cube-3d-printer-program) for FRC and FTC teams, but submissions were due 11/2.

I just got an email:

Congratulations! FRC Team 1529 has been selected to receive an EKOCYCLE™ Cube® Printer thanks to 3D Systems and The Coca-Cola Company. You will receive an email at this address in the next few weeks following our verification that your team is financially cleared to participate this season. The follow up email will include detailed instructions on what you will need to do to register with 3D Systems to receive your printer. Be on the lookout for that email!

Who else got a similar one?

I got an email as well. However, in the email it states team 1806 won. I think it's a typo, but when I sent an email to 3dprinters@usfirst.org as instructed for questions, the email was kicked back as "The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's e-mail address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk."

Weird.

The email posted here (http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ekocycle-cube-3d-printer-program) is 3dprinter@usfirst.org. You may want to try this one.

This is what you got sent if you weren't selected:

Thank you for applying for the EKOCYCLE™ Cube® Printer Giveaway sponsored by 3D Systems and The Coca-Cola Company on behalf of FRC team 2081. Over 2200 teams applied for this opportunity. Unfortunately, there are only 1600 printers available and your team was not among those selected this time. Again, we thank you for your time and wish you good luck with your season.

Team 980 received both emails! We only submitted one application.

We received the "Congratulations!" email at 10:51a PST, then a rejection email at 12:21p PST.

We replied to the Congrats email indicating we received a rejection email.

Wonder how this will play out...

There isn't an FTC team 980, is there? They might have gotten mixed up.

Team 4276 got an EKOCYCLE printer as well! Now we have this one plus the Cube from last year. Looking forward to trying out the "recycled" filament.

Yesterday during our CAD training session, I challenged a student to CAD up a water bottle we could 3D print with it. So we can convert old water bottles, into recycled printer filament, back to a usable water bottle! This will be the first "test" part on our queue once we get the new printer, haha.
