Our team 5328, was wondering if zip ties are able to stick out of the 18x18x18" cube when being measured for competition. In the past it has not but we are unsure.

Rule RG04 does not make an exception for zip-ties.

Everything (no exceptions) must fit within the 18" sizing cube. So trim those zip ties down! My team is going through the same thing (or will be...).

I've seen this issue many times with zip tie beater bar intakes for ball pickup. What i tell teams to do as as easy solution is to be able to have long zip ties but stay within the sizing limit is instead of putting them 360deg around the roller, just put them 180deg to each other (think 12 o clock and 6 o clock positions) and just make sure you have them vertical when you put the bot down on the mat before the match which would put them inside the chassis.

I know this is kind of a redundant question with the no exceptions, but is the alliance flag (not the holder) allowed to be outside of the 18" cube?

Yes, the alliance flag may be outside the 18 inches, but the holder must be inside.

Rule RG04 does make an exception for the alliance flag (and "pre-loaded game elements").
