We opted out, which turned out to be a poor decision.
We would like to obtain one, most likely through purchase.
Is this possible?

The AM14U was available to purchase soon after kickoff. As were previous kit drivetrains. I strongly assume the AM14U2 will be the same, especially since teams will need spare parts.

You will have to wait until after Kickoff to buy it. I think I recall the chassis is able to be purchased as soon as kickoff happened. So if you are sure you want to use it try to buy it early on that Saturday. If you don't it could take a little while to get it.

I am always a huge advocate for the kitbot, but I am curious as to what new developments have since caused you to believe opting out was a poor decision?

The AM14U2 will likely become available soon after kickoff. If you are short on funds, make sure to not spend your AndyMark PDV voucher, and instead save it until kickoff to use on the AM14U2.

Anyone know if the voucher last year was the exact price of the AM14U? If this is the case why not just opt out until you can see what you are buying then buy it the day after kick off with the voucher? (besides the logistical nightmare of 1000 teams ordering the same thing from AM in 1 day, which is why I assume they do it the way they do)

AndyMark has the AM14U as $560 (http://www.andymark.com/AM14U-s/510.htm), which is about $160 more than the PDV was for last year (if I remember correctly).

We forgot to opt out, so we'll be getting the KOP drivebase even though we don't want it. I think we tried to reach out to FIRST to see if it was too late to switch, though I'm not sure if anything came of it. To the OP, if you'd like to trade your voucher for our chassis I think we can probably figure something out.

We have our 2014 brand new unused.
If interested, just PM me.
We dont really have a desire to sell our old unsued sets in past years, other than to help a team that really want one.;)

The 2015 version has changed with the addition of 90 deg flanges to one of the side members for better support.

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to verify your guesses for you. Yes the AM14U2 will be available to order on its own. It will become available after the game animation on kickoff day. Which is way soon. :D
FRC558 choose to get the voucher so that we could choose which COTS chassis we would like to run in 2015 based on new product availability from both AndyMark and VEXpro. We are excited to see what the new AM14U2 chassis looks like and are expected at the very least another VEXpro DIAD chassis.
Keep in mind there are a number of COTS drivetrain options.

Depending on a team's resources and processes, the $100-150 or so you sacrifice by keeping your options open could be worth it. We don't even know what the available frames look like yet. So it might not be a bad decision to opt out of the kitbot and then turn around and buy it anyway.
Another thing to consider is that if your team decides to run AndyMark 2 speed gearboxes on an AndyMark frame, or any non-kit gearbox, your out of pocket spending will likely be about the same whether you go with the voucher or not. You can buy the 2014 kit frame parts minus gearboxes for approximately the value of the $450 voucher.
