If it doesn't say it in the rules I an see blocking and catching the noodles thrown from the other alliance.
it could be that they didnt want to have to worry about the high speed ramming from last year
The ramming is the best part...
it could be that they didnt want to have to worry about the high speed ramming from last year

This game has a lot of similarities to FLL. Almost no interaction between the two teams with the cooperation mission available in the middle.

Robots aren't allowed to cross the Step in the middle of the field, so defense seems to be limited to blocking pool noodles being thrown by the other alliance.
Trying to block seems like a waste of weight, wouldn't it be much simpler to just have a ground sweeper that picks up the trash on the ground and dumps it into the landfill in the last 20s?

From 3.2.5 G24:
G24 ROBOTS may not cause TOTES, RECYCLING CONTAINERS, and/or LITTER to completely transfer from their side of the FIELD,
or from the STEP, onto the opposite side of the FIELD.
This may be wrong though, so read your manual.
*EDIT*
You might have meant human players throwing the "litter" over the line. I think that's still a viable strategy. You just wouldn't be able to send them back. */EDIT*

As a veteran of 2003, trust me, you don't want opponent robots messing with your stacks. 2 minutes to build a stack, 1 second to destroy it.
I do kinda wish that there was an area where both teams could interact (have the tote-feeding stations in a shared area or something, or even have the stacking happen in a protected area and have the rest be a free-for-all), but I'm very happy to see that tote stacks will be protected from the opposition.
