The type of solenoid you use really depends on what purpose your pneumatics will serve. For example, there are single acting and double acting solenoids, both of which offer different opportunities for control. I would recommend this resource (http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/3120/m/7912/l/132407-operating-pneumatic-cylinders-solenoids) as a starting point for learning about solenoids. Also, searching Chief Delphi for older threads on solenoids can be very beneficial to finding your solution.
As for specifics, in the past my team has used this (http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0888.htm) double solenoid for our systems with good results. A different option for a double would be this solenoid (http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2343.htm), with a lower cost than the first one. AndyMark also carries single acting solenoids, as a quick search on their site will show.
I'm not very well versed in other types of solenoids, but use your resources! Dig up some old threads that can probably go into more depth than I can. Good luck!

Howzit!
We have been getting most of our pneumatic solenoids from Automation Direct. Last year we were able to get the higher Cv solenoids for a very reasonable cost. There might even be a voucher in the KOP. There was last year. We haven't received our KOP yet so I am unsure if there is a voucher from them this year.

Good luck this season and read that manual, many, many times
Aloha!
@TikiTech, Thanks for the link to those!!! I'm feeling pretty silly for ordering four of the andymark ones now... oh well. :P
