View Full Version : Possible Robot Design?

I was just thinking, since the frame perimeter rules were taken away, one could theoretically build a VEX-type robot which is basically a crate containing the robot(s) which fall out after the end of auton.

Are there any rules that specifically prevent the construction of two 3-CIM robots that are electrically/mechanically connected?

The only rule problem I can see would be G25, but that doesn't seem very relevant either.

I suppose that as long as you control the robot with the same battery/roboRio/other one-of components, and have all 8 sides of your "robot" have number displays, nothing is stopping you from doing that.

Exactly what benefit are you trying to achieve from that? If I understand correctly, you're looking for something reminiscent of 2002 "minibots" which were designed to get back to the home zone for end of match points.

I was just considering what ways to score points, and a stacking efficiency was one of the things that I considered. If you can separately push 2-high stacks, your stacking speed would increase.

You could have a bot that has space for a tote inside of it (as a lift/intake/whatever) and have a mini-bot sit in there and deploy at the start of the match.

Interesting idea. To be sure I'd say take it up with the Q&A tomorrow, but one of the first issues that comes to mind is the degree of difficulty that would come from trying to drive two separate robots that are mechanically connected.

So basically you want two robots but they actually are connected but will be used for different jobs? What do you have in mind for each "robot"?
