Engineer on team #21, ComBBAT , from Astronaut H.S. and Titusville H.S. and Brevard Community College and Boeing Company and NASA-KSC.
Here are my unofficial results from the lonestar regional. This was a 40 team regional with nearly 20 rookie teams.
Number 1 Seed: Exxon/Mobil/Boeing Tigers (#57)
(ave qual pts were around 185 but don't hold me to it)
Remaining Seeds:
#2 Raytheon RoboWranglers (148)
#3 MSFC/Boeing/Lee HS (442)
#4 Arlington Hts HS Metal Jackets (317)
#5 JSC Robonauts (118)
#6 JSC/Riverside HS Virus (215)
#7 JSC/Rio Ranch HS (464)
#8 Keihin/Morristown HS Full Metal Jackets (393)
Final alliances:
Seed #1: 57, 118, 21 (1st pick), 438, 456
Seed #2: 148, 215, 476, 446, 704
Seed #3: 442, 464, 418, 647, 437
Seed $4: 317, 393, 34, 364, 231
And the winner is:
#2 Alliance (beat #4)
Congratulations to Raytheon and their team! High score in Elimination rounds: approx 380.
Oh I almost forgot, yours truly, the Team Spirit Award was won by the Boeing ComBBAT (21) Team, for "Riding the Snake"!
A few scouting notes for you junkies out there:
Very few teams can reliably balance 2 goals (and I'm talking by 30 seconds. Balancing 2 in less than 15 seconds remaining does not count and is stupid to try. It's worth 4x when 1 goal in 30 secs is 4x, and 1 goal with 1:00 left is 5x!)
At houston there were 3 reliable double goal balancers only, 148, 442 and 317. 442 Does it with a single, 4-bar linkage leg they hold over the side to help balance. 148 has a fascinating automated balancing program using the gyro. they can usually balanced withing less than 5 secs once on the ramp. Note, you do not need to be a double goal balancer (And you probably are not even if you think you are) to win.
Team 57 was #1 seed and they did it by consistently balancing 1 goal all day long (ie approx 200 pts!). If you learn, accept and pursue this you will greatly improve.
Lastly there was an extreme shortage of Limbo bots. Team 57 ultimately is one and they were #1.
There were only 4 others.
This is the biggest year for exteme dishonesty and lack of reality. Scout only with information you see on the field.
