Does anyone out there give their drive team a written driver test. If so would you be willing to share. It sure would be helpful.

Thanks and go teams!

Sorry should be more specific.

I written test to ensure our drive team knows and understands the game manual and what it takes to be a good driver is what we are looking for. Just didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone already wrote a written test.

Our written test and drive team application is posted online.

On our team we expect everyone to know the manual and read it multiple times, so we do not have a manual test for the drive team instead we operate on a everyone must know this kind of strategy, as knowing all the rules is important for many things such as scouting, talking to judges, or (of course) being on the drive team.

You may find this useful:
Game Manual Test (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/3094?)

The Drive team portion is a combination of Multiple Choice, Fill-in-the Blanks and written answers.

Here's the one I made for Team 1559.

I just updated this just now so that the answer key should be 100% correct. Note that the correct answer key is not in the original post but further down.

There have been several posted here on CD, so I would recommend looking around here.

Having said that, I STRONGLY recommend giving your drivers a rules test. On my team we have a period of about 2 weeks where we allow drivers to take a written test before drive team practice begins. We also have a second, easier test, our "scouting test," that everyone who wants to go to competition is required to pass. Both tests have really helped us have students who are better and more prepared to do well in competition.

What do teams require as "passing" these tests. I just gave one to my team and the highest we have is a 64%

My team has both a written test that goes rather in depth with the game manual. They are not generally easy, as a passing grade is considered a 70. For those that pass, they then move onto physical testing and the drive team(s) are chosen by the strategy group.

"Passing" based on a percentage is not accurate, at least not for the test that I made.

I find these tests to be better as a teaching tool for the first round.
Review the test immediately and discuss the finer points of this years game.

You don't want your drive team to appear ignorant of the rules at a competition.

Retest later to reinforce the rules.

If you have a practice Robot, you can practice and assess all the way to your competitions. If you can do a week zero event scrimmage, all the better.

Choose your drivers based on their ability to operate the robot effectively.
Use the test to filter a group of candidates.

Here is a test I wrote for our drive team. It is being used as a second test to show improvement as it is very difficult. The test is rather violation heavy and based on material the drivers will need to know at the competition. Here is a link:
