Static Widget and custom things

Does Static Widget exist this year? We know it worked in the code last year but now it doesn't exist for some reason in the new system or the old (we could not find the package even in last years plugin). This would be super useful for creating custom widgets. Does anyone know a better way to create custom widgets? We have also tried using java.swing things like JFrame, etc. but we dont know how to interface between that and the robot code so that it acts like SmartDashboard...except under our control.

I took a look in SmartDashboard.jar, and I see edu.wpi.first.smartdashboard.ui.StaticWidget.
