Hello,

I've searched the internet and some threads but I'm struggling to find a wiring diagram with the encoders and Roborio (pins on encoder vs pins in Roborio). Can someone please share this with us. If someone could reply quickly it would be appreciated. Sorry for asking such a simple question.... Thank you.

I accidentally posted this to another thread also - sorry.

Hello,

Can we get some more information, What encoders are you using? How many pins do you have on the encoders.

Generally speaking, depending on the encoder your going to have 4 wire, (Positive, Negative, Signal A, Signal B). Encoders are digital inputs for the Roborio to use. The positive and negative pins will go to the positive and negative pins on the roborio, The signal A, will go to the signal pin of the DIO slot. The same thing is true for the signal B however that wire will go to the signal pin of a different DIO slot.

Using the 2 signals that the encoder gives you, you can determine the direction that the encoder is rotating and the speed of rotation.

Thank you, we've got them working! Sorry for such the trivial question. Thank you.

As a side note, one of our students thought of a nice way to make the connectors. For our encoders, we needed +5v, gnd and two signals. Instead of making two 3x1 connectors, they used a 4x2 (as I recall) and a 4x1 then used heat shrink tubing to make one connector that fits over two DIO ports.
