I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your pneumatic storage tanks are illegal. R66-I specifically calls out those white Clippard tanks as not being allowed for use.

Those aren't Clippards. Those are the tank listed here: http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-2479.htm

I don't think those are the Clippard tanks. The illegal Clippard tanks (http://www.clippard.com/part/AVT-PP-41) have a larger label than what appears to be on the tanks in the video.

We are aware of that rule, when we ordered them there were no black clippard tanks in stock. Because of that, we bought tanks from another brand.

Moral of the story: not all white plastic pneumatic tanks are illegal.

Another beautiful machine from Panteras. I'm kind of sad that I won't be able to see you guys at Peachtree this year, but I wish you guys the best of luck at your events this year!

I think there needs to be some form of formal education on the fact that white air tanks are not always Clippard Tanks :/

Thank you! We're also sure that your robot will be excellent again! We hope to see you at St. Louis! And maybe at Peachtree next year.

Has anyone performed tests on these other brands of storage tanks to show they won't explode when they fail? Are they any safer than the Clippard tanks?

Last I checked air tanks aren't rated on explodebility based on color. Panteras are a smart team. They know what they're doing.

Great job on the robot. Can't wait to see it in action this year.

Did I mention color in that post? I'm simply pointing out that plastic pressure vessels have a propensity to fail in a fashion that creates significant safety hazard. There were plenty of very smart teams that used the now banned Clippard tanks as well. Personally, I'd much rather be safe than sorry.

Well a Black clippard tank blew up on us, does that mean those are also unsafe?

If the failure mode involves sending high velocity projectiles around the room, as it does with the White Clippard tanks (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127956), then yes, I do feel those are unsafe. The severity of the risk is not worth the slight weight savings versus using a stainless steel (http://www.clippard.com/part/AVT-32-16) storage tank, which tend to fail in a less dangerous fashion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Orqi8wC-0M).

Anyway, any further discussion should occur in a relevant thread:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127695

Allow this thread to remain about 2283's robot.
