View Full Version : 2016 Game Prediction - Football

I predict that the 2016 game will have a football theme; in honor of the 50th Super Bowl.
We will see weight limits based on speed (sort of like Rack 'n Roll); heavier robots will be limited in top end speed. Robots will be required to "wear" helmets, with face masks, in addition to the shoulder pads (bumpers).
For all of those who missed the ruff and tumble defensive play, this will be your game.
The end-game bonus will be the ability to "tear down" the goal posts; however, your alliance must be leading with 10 seconds remaining or you will be DQ'ed.
Will there be as many stoppages as a football game?
2.5min matches may last 15min then.

To compensate, matches will be 11 on 11. Good luck strategizing, teams.

Also, the field will randomly flood and drain four times to represent game quarters.

But there was already a football theme in 2010. /s
Honestly I think the GDC is gonna stay away from the sports theme for bit longer. But I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though...
Maybe we'll get to stack something exciting like buckets or pallets!

I like this idea. It would force teams to really break down the game and decide how their robot will fit within the game's roles

As a strategy coach, I don't get why this would be perceived as a negative. More robots on your alliance means more tools in your collective toolbox to play with in formulating a gameplan. That'd be awesome.
One robot must be designated as the QUARTERBACK before the match begins. The QUARTERBACK must begin with the ball and only that robot can throw the ball.

I like it. Only one question remains, though.
How closely guarded will the game piece air pressure be?

Whose doing the half time show?
Joseph Smith

I think our drive coach would enjoy this... since he is a high school football coach as well.

As long as it being the wrong pressure gets 24 hour news coverage and a catchy buzzword name...
Just, let's not let FIRSTers get quite as rabid as Pats fans...

Goal posts are pool noodles with green or red tape, depending on which alliance they are for.

I feel this game would produce the corniest jokes of them all...

Instead of corncob dust the field will be littered with corndogs!
If Canada beat Texas, High School Football would never be the same.

You must not watch much football. As long as the ball is behind the LS (Line of Scrimmage) anyone can throw it

If you're going to correct a comedic suggestion, at least correct it properly. Anyone can still throw a ball whether or not they've moved past the line of scrimmage, the only difference is before passing the line of scrimmage you can throw it in any direction and once passed you can only throw it behind you.

Since when was FIRST restricted to following the rules of sports to the letter. If that was the case there would have been 1 ball in Breakaway.

;)
What a coincidence that this thread was started. I have started designing a football mini game for a potential fall project. I don't want to giveaway the details as alot of kids on our team read chiefdelphi. My thinking is First has to do it eventually, it's the only thing they haven't done. Rugby would be cool too.

You mean like in Aerial Assist? (please never again!)
It will be interesting to see robots play football with all the water on the field.

It often snows here in South Bend on gameday. Maybe we will have some sort of snowfall mechanic where slowly the field lines start to disappear and then nobody knows where any of the zones are?

Eventually they'll cave (so he says).

Or they will run the other direction and make it a nerf gun fight...

I'd imagine formulating a game plan with 10 other teams would be difficult, depending on their willingness to work with different ideas pitched to them.

I wasn't on Chief Delphi as much last year, but I'm surprised that Aerial Assist has drawn so much ire from the community. To us at 166 it is one of the best games FIRST has created. Sure penalties were kind of crazy, but no game is without its drawbacks.
I know this is a little off-topic, but when Aerial Assist was adored by so many on Chop Shop I am just curious as to why so many people everywhere else dislike it so much.

The biggest reasons I had for disliking it, was due to the crazy amount of penalties and no calls, and the fact that if an alliance partner decided not to show up to a match it was near impossible to pull of a win in qualifiers.

Football is a sport that causes its athletes to be fatigued. Fatigued people sweat. People who sweat drink Gatorade at sports events. Gatorade has the word Gator in it. Gator is short for alligator. Alligators swim in the water. Water game 2016 confirmed.

Honestly, it often snows here in South Bend on non-gamedays too.:p
Or they will run the other direction and make it a nerf gun fight...
A few years ago I refereed at a BunnyBots (a fall off-season event run by the Flaming Chickens) that had the robots armed with nerf guns. Each hit deducted points from the victim's score. Referees had to count hits with clickers.
(Besides shooting each other, the robots were attempting to move an assortment of stuffed rabbits into goals. It was a fun game!)

I thought you were going to stop at sweat being comprised mostly of water, but no, you had to keep going.

This just means a portion of your robot will need to be fabricated from silver.

I've been predicting a football game for the past 3 years and have been disappointed every time it hasn't been one. Oh well, at least I've got some good ideas on game piece manipulation.

I will be a little frustrated if this true,I've always wanted to drive in a football FIRST Game, and this year, I'm a senior:mad: :( . I would be more of a fan of Football Frenzy instead of Recycle Rush.
