Hey CD,
This old thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130973 got pretty cluttered and outdated, and now that college decisions are all out, I figured it would be a good idea to start a new thread of just your final decision on college/military/work/whatever else you are doing next year. So feel free to post where you'll be!
I'll be studying Mechanical Engineering at Clarkson University this fall! Very excited!

Still deciding between University of Michigan and Georgia Tech. I also got into UC Berkeley but decided against any chance of attending recently due to distance and a variety of other factors. If anyone has any insight into GT vs. U of M I'm all open to discussion.

I plan on going into aerospace engineering at GT or Michigan. That's why I'm so stuck, their programs are extremely comparable (#3 and #2 nationwide respectively), and I loved visiting both.

Maybe I'm biased (GT'05), but GT has an expansive undregrad research program. What major? I did EE and got to do AI/Optics research in semiconductors. They also have a fantastic nanotech lab I keep getting alumni emails about.

It is MIT, but I didn't get in there. Congrats to anyone who did, as I personally know of a few geniuses who were rejected. When you're comparing top 5 (or probably top 10 for that matter) engineering schools, I'm not sure job placement and opportunities are affected much by subtle changes in ranking. I got a slightly better vibe off of my visit to GT, and their facilities are amazing as well. I don't think you can beat a rec center built for the Olympics in terms of campus life/amenities.

I'm pretty biased as well, sent you a PM with some thoughts.
If anyone out there is coming to Michigan or thinking about it, I'd be happy to answer questions or provide advice.

Heading out to Purdue for Comp Sci.
I'll definitely stay involved in FIRST while I'm there, but I think I'll stick to my media role and shoot photos and make highlight reels for INFIRST my freshman year.

Maybe you can help change that! However, I do know Wildstang is just North of downtown Chicago (up in Schaumburg), and I'm sure many other teams exist in the Chicago area that you can get involved with!

Haha that's definitely one of my goals! UChicago doesn't have an engineering department but I'm sure I'll find students interested in the program - I know many colleges sponsor and mentor teams so I'm looking at that as a possibility.
Not true!

By "FIRST presence" I meant for the University specifically - not Chicago :p It's not a college like WPI or Georgia Tech with a lot of FIRST alum (I actually don't know any FIRST alums who go there or will go there), and it's not a popular choice for FIRSTers since it's more liberal arts based and has no engineering program. I don't plan on mentoring my first year but I'll definitely be volunteering when I get the chance! PM'ed anyways :)
300+ inches of snow a year... but Houghton is awesome place in summer.
It's an awesome place in the winter too if you like snow :D
