A bit of gut feeling, and an abundance of "canburglars."

I'm from 3641, what a diverse group of teams (at least for us.) I expected that we'd be with a ton of other Michigan teams, but we're one of the few Michigan teams in the division,:ahh: But I certainly look forward to working with teams from all around the country, good luck Newton teams! :D

Hey, that's a familiar logo! :p Hehe
I noticed this, too... When we were in Galileo in 2013, there were a few more Michigan teams than this, but again we were kinda isolated. A lot of them went to Curie that year, I think.
It makes me really curious how FIRST decides which teams go to which divisions...

3015 is pumped to bring our machine to the classic Newton Division.
At first glance, Newton has some incredibly fast canburglars in 118, 1678 and 3310. It's going to be interesting to see how alliance selections goes when you include all of the other great robots. Can't wait!

It's not going to be very useful information. The number of teams with new or upgraded systems is going to take that list and render it obsolete.

There is already one going for all divisions (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=136582), and due to this being the internet, refer to this (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1471670&postcount=28).

So, Newton division, what features do you guys want to see in a robot for alliance selections?
3467 can play landfill but it isn't our preferred method. From the HP station we can make 2 6-stacks and cap them or do 4 5-stacks uncapped for our partner to cap (we usually have enough time to cap one of our own stacks). From the landfill we probably can do 2-3 5-stacks uncapped or 1-2 6-stacks capped but we haven't yet tested this theory.

The wires is 1756 tether to there slide. It is used to connect are robot to a slide. We have gone through extensive testing to find the best tether that is the least likely to get tangled.
Side note it looks like one of the video links are broken. Bellow are the correct links

Sorry about that one i forgot they got tangled in are tether. i modified the post above to be more correct. From what i remember they got tangled due to excessive turning on the tether and were the only one to get tangled at Midwest.
The can grabber can be used in Auto to grab 2 cans or during teleop to grab a single can.
During playoffs we gave the ramp away so that we could have the option to do auto can grabber. However we found are 3 tote auto to be worth more points due to are teammate having a great can grabber.
we can play without are ramp though. We have put up 2 stack of 6 and 1 stack of 5 from the land fill. I am pretty sure if we did it correctly we could put up 3 stack from the landfill.

We cannot grab cans from the middle. If we have a knocked-over can we upright it and then grab it, takes ~5 seconds extra vs. picking up an upright can. Can you give a match number where you used your can burglar? I watched some of your matches last night but never saw it. You guys are looking like a strong bot, especially if you thrown on some fast burglars, and landfill stacking will be valuable.

We are looking forward to seeing all of these great robots on Newton. We have made several upgrades, allowing us to turn our 5 stacks into 6 stacks, we can do at minimum 2 capped+noodled stacks. Also we are working on perfecting our 20 pt auto.
Like many other teams 587 will be upgrading our robot at championships. We've been testing a two bin grabber on our practice bot and it looks very encouraging. Can't wait to see it on the field. Also modified our arms so we can quickly stand bins upright as most of us seem to prefer them in that orientation.

It's hard to win when the other alliance has 7 bins to your 3. Raw stacking power does you no good unless you have bins in your possession. Whoever pairs with 1678 will win Newton and whoever pairs with 971 will likely win their division also.

I think that is a fairly good prediction. 1678 has shown that they have a very reliable can grabbing system, and also another set for cheesecake that is fairly reliable as well. A team that picks them has a good chance for getting all 4 cans from the step, which would be hard to beat. They also are a great team with a history of doing well at champs.
JohnSchneider what about that prediction is not reasonable?
CTbiker105
20-04-2015, 16:04
Really?
I wouldn't say that prediction is inherently wrong. 1678's canburglar and overtly offensive power could potentially guarantee their win. Assuming their scouting system is as comprehensive as it was last year, and assuming they rank as high as predicted, they're in pretty good shape to validate that prediction.

I just didn't realize we had collectively thrown in the can burgling towel. No one sent us the memo.

I think the point is that this is one team that has the potential of getting 4 containers with just one pick. Their cheesecake arms have been shown to be reliable and effective.

It will be fun

John,
3310 inspired us to drop out 4 can grabber and try something new.
Everyone should know that the race has only begun.
Deciding a winner now would be foolish.
We look forward to playing with and racing against some of the best teams in the world.

Wasn't a knock on you guys. But it's a competition, and it bothers me so many people give up so easily :)

I'm not gonna lie, I don't feel nearly that confident, if we're not the fastest then we have a very slim chance of winning anything. No one has any idea how fast anyone else is. No matter how fast we go there's always someone who could go faster. I can tell you that the mechanism we showed off during the season definitely wouldn't cut it, I doubt it would have been good enough to make it through division semifinals. We're going as fast as we can with the materials available to us, but that still may not be fast enough, and I'm definitely not willing to put down any money until I see what everyone else has up their sleeve.

Our robot isn't the fastest canburglar when it comes to lifting the can off the step. But if we get ahold of it, there's a higher chance of us being dragged across the center step than losing the can (where we grab it also gives us the advantage of leverage).

This will be interesting. With so many teams pushing the envelope on their previous experience, so many teams trying to break into this aspect of the game for the first time, and so little opportunity to fine tune these finely tuned systems on the practice field, I expect to see a more than a few cans left on the step - and a good dose of robo-barf on the field, too.
Bring plenty of popcorn. Its going to be fun to watch.

Are any teams planning on taking videos of all of the matches?
We will be recording the quals at the least and will try to also get the eliminations. With all of the school work (AP) after Champs it will be a few weeks before we can get them online though.

Congratulations to 118, 1678, 1671, and 5012 on winning Newton!!
We have had the pleasure of competing with an against 3 out of 4 of these teams this year (sorry Griffengear, you were not included, I'm sure it would have been exciting).
I can say from personal experience, all of these teams are a CLASS ACT!! I wish you well on Einstein!
Want to give a big thanks to are alliance partners 195, 3015, and 4522. It was amazing getting to play with you and look forward to playing with you guy again. congratulations to 118, 1678, 1671, and 5012 on winning Newton and Einstein. It was a lot of fun playing against you. We gave it all we had but you by far out played us.
Also special shout out to 1983. It was great getting to know you guys and look forward to playing with you in the future.

Wow those were some exciting matches. I was rooting for you guys from the beginning. The Newton team comes from behind and outscores the Curie juggernaut by 1 piece of litter, then soundly defeats the Hopper team by can burgling and executing perfection. When I saw Wave Robotics machine with 3 cans and the yellow totes my mouth dropped.
Playing against these three teams during regional play I couldn't figure out how Team 1671 got on the #1 alliance. They are really one of the best stackers of all the robots this year. I know Mike C just jumped for joy after the second to the last pick when he saw the Bird Brains were still left. Key pick and that propels the Newton gang to be World Champions.
Congrats you guys great robots, great teams, great showing.
Special Congrats to Mike C. Awesome dude!!!

Had the pleasure of flying out of ST. Louis with the Circuits. Mike C. was totally horse. In case you failed to notice: THERE WERE THREE CALIFORNIA TEAMS ON the WINNING ALLIANCE (oh yeah and a NASA House team from Texas.) Team 5027 is grateful to 1678 and 254 for picking us as your can burglar at SVR. We never thought we get to Champs, but you made our dream come true. We'd also like to thank 1918 and 3310 for going head to head with us in Can Tug-o-War. The full 2 minute Teleop battle with 3310 has to be our proudest moment in 5027 team history.

Does anyone have any video footage of qualification match #46 in Newton? Our robot flipped and we were able to right ourselves again using our pick up arm. We had never flipped before so we never tested righting. First time trying was in this match! We want to collect as much footage as possible for some kind of montage.

FRC 2468 would like to extend our Appreciation to:
- #3 Alliance Captains FRC 3130 the Errors for choosing us as your number one pick for eliminations. You were an excellent team captain and put together a very strong alliance.
- FRC 3310 Blackhawk Robotics - It was great to be on the field in eliminations with you again after Hub City. Maybe the most consistent can burglar in FRC this year (and as Kris Verdeyen, Newton MC, said it kicked off the Manhattan projects of Can Burglars) provided us extra containers every match. And a big congrats in the Control award. I have to agree with my wife, this machine needs sounds that coordinates with the movement of the arm. :) :D
- FRC 537 Charger Robotics for allowing our alliance to cheesecake them if it was needed and for providing a solid human player in the matches.
We would like to extend our congratulations to:
-#Newtonwinners and #Einsteinwinners of FRC 118 Robonauts, FRC 1678 Citrus Circuits, FRC 1671 Buchanan Bird Brains and FRC 5012 Gryffingear. The elimination matches in our division were exciting to watch. You put up an average of 249.9 points per match in Newton elimination matches with a high of 256 and a low of 238 - what an example of consistency and performing at the right time.
- FRC !95 Cyber Knights on your #2 alliance captainship and for your well deserved Engineering Inspiration award. You provide a shining example for what FRC teams should strive to be.
As a coach/mentor, I cannot begin to express how much fun it was to get to compete with all the other teams in Newton. It was great to get compete with our #TeamTexas teams (FRC 118, FRC 2158 and FRC 3310) as well getting to know so many new teams from FRC.
Thanks goes out to FRC 1477 Texas Torque http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136883&highlight=trading+cards for the Team Trading cards you provided for all the Texas Teams at Champs this year. The cards were a big hit and looked so professional. I think FIRST, FRC Regional Directors or teams need to look more into this idea. It provides a very clear professional standard to share about your team and program.
Thanks to all the volunteers, judges, referees, field reset and team queue volunteers for you dedication and time. It would not have happened without you.

IMHO that was the second most exciting match on Newton ;) Ditto on video coverage, I desperately want to see match #78 a couple of dozen times again.
78 Fri 4/24 - 10:34 AM 5027 5479 3467|3310 3464 5418 | 74 2
Our tug-of-war resulted in a 74 - 2 score - not good for qualifying, but we were auditioning for elimination. It turns out both drivers were trying to let go of that can, but letting go was not considered as design priority.
