View Full Version : Introducing FRC Pokemon, alpha testers wanted
Introducing FRC Pokemon, where you can pick (catch) wild robots and face gym trainers around the world, such as Karthik or JVN. I have rushed an alpha version of the game so you guys have something to do on the way to champs. But I don't want to spoil the official release, so I am only handing out the alpha version to people who message me on CD, have a reputation on CD, and have intentions to report bugs and recommendations.

The alpha version includes:
Currently only one town (unnamed)
Arena (gym) with a boss (Karthik)
Catch wild robots in the grass
Pits (pokecenter) where you repair your robots
Store
Hotel (Inn)
School
Evolution of robots:
Works in tiers, 2013: tier 1 -> 2014 tier 2 - > 2015 tier 3
So robots evolve to their next years robot which their attacks deal more damage
Current robots:
2013:
254: Overkill
624: Thor
1983: Ult. Scent
1986: Kraken
1806: B2
2014:
254: Barrage
624: Sidewinder
1983: Flower
1986: Tusk
368: (need name)
2015:
254: Deadlift
624: Gravity
1983: Skunk Mode

Wow, our team is honored to be featured in the alpha!
I'm sure I would be interested, this is awesome.
I'm interested in this game, seems fun. I do have quite a few good exploits I can try out, will report the results.

how did you decide which teams to put in the alpha?

how did you decide which teams to put in the alpha?
I'm guessing some of the good teams, and teams with good photographs, and probably his own team. (For example, Cheesy Poofs have white backgrounds on robots so it's easy to add to the game)
how did you decide which teams to put in the alpha?
The starting teams (624, 1983, 1986) were chosen because were consistent throughout the last three years as well as they are well known. Picking one of the three will be tricky since they have different skill curves. 624: starting slow, gets much better after each evolution. 1983: stays consistent through all evolution's. 1986: starting strong, but slowing down threw the evolution's.
Big powerhouse teams (1114, 254 ect) will be more legendary (like mewtwo)
As for less of known teams will be the common wild robots that you catch and train.
For all of you who are having trouble using the exe to unzip the game, just open it in WinRAR and extract the contents of the exe.

Thank you, I'll try to fix that.

One of our students suggested that maybe add some national woodie flowers award winners in as the elite 4? ex: Paul Copioli?

This is pretty ambitious but it would be cool if you could travel to different parts of the world and the wild robots that you get there would be the teams in that state (or region)

This. The world map should be split up into regions such as NE, MAR, PNW, Texas, Michigan, California, Indiana, etc. Would be cool to have gym leaders or wild robots from their respective areas.

I would love to be part of the testing.
Yes, I have already planned on a world map with each major area with different robots specific to that area.

You may want to make different versions of the game for different years, that way it is less confusing because there aren't multiple roots of the same number.
Also, have the really good robots be rare, and have relatively minor teams be more common.
This looks amazing. Just wow.

The beta crew is having a ton of fun with this, it's fantastic. Working on bugs and such, having a great time.

It works like that, sort of. 254 currently only occurs in a special area.

Interesting game! I would be interested in testing.
Sign me up. I can do it on PC. :>
I'd love to be a part of the testing!
Very cool. You do want at least 150 robots though, and maybe make it easy to change stuff for different years.

This looks like an awesome way to get people more interested in the history of FIRST, and other FRC teams outside of one's own region. Sign me up!

I would love to give you feedback on this game. It looks awesome!
I am currently at capacity with the alpha, if a few individuals that received a copy don't participate, then I will add more. If you haven't received a pm back from me, don't worry your still eligible once there's room. Thank you for all of your help, I am predicting a beta by this summer.

Can we provide cropped photos to apply to be a team? Or is the full list already decided

Sure, ill provide a google doc for teams to add when I start working on the beta. Currently there is a lot of work to be done on the alpha.

If you need more pictures of our old bots. We still have them around. We can get whatever angles you need with whatever color backdrops you want. We are honored and very excited to be a starter pokemon.
Also, I could find scouting data for the last three years in PNW if you want something to base power levels for other PNW teams.

I would love to be apart of the testing once there is room available.

That'd be great, but first we have to get a damage-scaling system first.

I'd love to help once you get more spots open to do so!
Someone on our team tried to make one awhile back, but it never came to fruition.
Let me know if there is any way I can help!

It would be amazing (although I'm sure extremely difficult) if everyone could have their own team's robots as a starter in some way. If you have rules about the picture format, I'm sure it's doable, just difficult to make unique and balanced, but even just the picture would be fun, in my opinion.
Looks awesome though regardless.
This is really cool! I look forward to the day of playing a full Pokemon-FRC game. I'm interested in helping alpha test.
What is this made in?
And me :P
People are still working on this? I didn't even know.

This is really cool! I'm not a huge fan of Pokemon but I would play this. I'd guess you include a brief tutorial, but you may want to have a non-pokemon player try the game to see if it needs a lot of explaining or not. Also, it would be a lot of work, but if you released an update every year to include that year's robots that would be really cool. I feel like this could be used as a good recruiting tool as well, have a computer set up at an event and let each kid play for a short time then stop them and tell them where they can get the game for themselves. This may cause them to want to see the robots they are gaming with in action and thus go to competitions and join the local team.
