THE MAYHEM RETURNS!
MidKnight Mayhem III
When: June 27th, 2015
Where: West Windsor-Plainsboro HS North
90 Grovers Mill Rd, Plainsboro NJ
Just like our first two years, event registration will be $200.
(Send us a message if you’re interested in bringing a pre-rookie).
Registration for both teams & volunteers can be found on www.midknightmayhem.org (http://www.midknightmayhem.org) - once teams have registered through our form, we will follow up with payment information. Expect most volunteer assignments in late May/early June.
In addition to up to 36 teams playing Recycle Rush, we will also be hosting FLL and FTC demos, as well as some local groups that aren’t just about robots (We are proud to partner with Attitudes in Reverse among other exhibitors – and, c’mon…who doesn’t love puppies?!)
More work this year on attempting a team social/outing event during the weekend – we’ll let you know more info if/when it becomes available.
If you have suggestions or recommendations for us, please feel free to leave them here in this thread, or email MidKnightMayhem@gmail.com. We're also available on Twitter (https://twitter.com/MidknightMayhem?lang=en) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/midknightmayhem).
We hope you'll help spread the word - last year we had a few teams from out of town, and we're happy to help them make accommodations. We want to make this a big, loud robot party here in Jersey, and we hope you'll be a part of it!

Team 1257 will be registering soon!
Team 329 from Medford NY had a blast here last year!
We are most definitely going to be signing up again!
Some of our mentors might be coming down the night before just to get a jump on things, any good hotels in the area you can recommend?
Oh, and any surprise rules changes we should be aware of? :ahh: :)

Oh, and any surprise rules changes we should be aware of? :ahh: :)
Each team may field one robot from 2014 and a mayhem ball may be used to knock down opponents stacks :D (I wish)

Rule Changes - We're thinking of something, but haven't yet decided. Suggestions are open!
(We will do everything in our power to make sure it's do-able with the robots as-is - the Mayhem Ball being the wrong size was not something we knew about until the day of!)
For hotels: We're working on a few ones near us to see if we can swing group rates for traveling teams, but feel free to check in with us via email about a hotel before you book it - most everything in the Plainsboro and East/West Windsor areas will be good for you.

Having hosted ours for so long, I know running an off-season tournament is freakin' hard--but these guys pulled it off swimmingly last year when I went up to volunteer. Were it not several hundred miles away and when most of our kids are scattered, 4901 would definitely be signing up!

Libby,
If you are interested we posted the rule changes for the 2015 Rumble in the Roads here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1478610&postcount=2).
I like these changes. Subtle improvement to game play, but does not change the game scoring or give any robot specialty an advantage. Well thought through.
I like these changes. Subtle improvement to game play, but does not change the game scoring or give any robot specialty an advantage. Well thought through.
For sure. We're giving some thought to rule changes and hope to post soon.
Team 11 registering means we are at 30 teams, six spots left. Thanks to all who have registered their teams or as volunteers so far!
We're also excited to announce that we'll be adding an FTC Outreach Scrimmage, as well as some Jr.FLL & FLL teams to the event. All four FIRST programs under one roof!
Announcement from NJ FTC:
We are very excited to announce that “MidKnight Mayhem” will include an NJ FTC Outreach Scrimmage this year. An NJ FTC Outreach Scrimmage is played with 4 – 6 Veteran Teams who form Alliances for the day with New and Prospective Team members.
In the morning, the new folks are introduced to FIRST, FTC, their mentoring-team Alliance Partner, AND the day’s special Outreach Challenge. There is time in the morning to strategize and adapt the Training Robot that will loaned to each Alliance. Veterans will work with the new people to help them modify their Training Bots to best deliver scoring elements to the tournament bots and to take advantage of special scoring opportunities.
Though driving this year’s tournament bot, the veteran teams will really depend on their rookie Alliance partner in order to win the Matches. It is an afternoon filled with fun, teamwork and hopefully with new people catching “coopertition fever”. There is still time to register as a mentoring-team or to plan to bring your new team prospects to the great “MidKnight Mayhem” event. The more, the merrier. It’s going to be a blast!
For more information or to register, Contact Us at www.NewJerseyFTC.com
We're definitely considering going, in the processes of raising funds!
A month from now the Mayhem will have already begun!

Will this event be livestreamed?
Will this event be livestreamed?
Not 100% sure yet. Hoping to!
We have tried in the past, but the school's network isn't happy with it. Working with the IT department this year to see if we can get it nailed down.
Is there going to be a Webcast?
Even though I've relocated away from MAR, I still want to watch all my great friends and teams.

Yep, all teams should be getting that today - the team (and both key mentors) just got back from Rush's National Advocacy Conference late last night so we're catching up on emails now. You're on my list, I promise :)
Also of note, 4281 has had to drop out so we are down to 33 teams again.
Sorry for the double-post but I just barely missed the edit window.
2015 MidKnight Mayhem
“Recycle Rush” Rule Changes
Please make note of these rule changes, as they will be put into effect at MidKnight Mayhem. Anything not listed here will be ruled as in the latest edition of the 2015 Game Manual.
1. All robots may weigh up to 130 lbs.
2. The two centermost totes on the step are removed in an attempt to make the 20-point Co-Opertition Set feasible.
3. G24 is amended, causing no foul for yellow totes that transfer onto the opposite side of the field if it is the result of an attempted Co-Op.
4. G33B is eliminated, allowing litter to be introduced over the alliance wall at any point in the teleoperated period.
5. All playoff matches are double-elimination, using the 2014 bracket structure.
6. Tethers may be eliminated for one robot piece under 20 lbs. This counts towards a team’s 130 lb allowance.
7. Mentor Matches during the lunch break are 6v6 Dodgeball on the FRC field. Registration for ‘alliances’ will be posted at Pit Admin in the morning.
8. Mayhem Rule: Each alliance receives a “Stacks of Seven” coupon with their backup robot & timeout coupons. The alliance may use their Seven Stack Card at any point in the playoff tournament, allowing the alliance to score stacks of seven for additional points in that match only.

I was really hoping one of the field at the championships would do it but they were content to make tote sculptures instead on lunch break.

So #6 means that ramps (so long as they weigh less than 20 lbs) can be on the field without being tethered to the robot, correct?
And I'd assume that the stacks of 7 rule just means that those stacks would be scored as if the rules didn't prohibit stacks of 7? (i.e. a fully capped and noodled 7 stack would be worth 48 points [2*7+4*7+6=48]

5. All playoff matches are double-elimination, using the 2014 bracket structure.
Are they double elimination (http://www.printyourbrackets.com/doubleelimination.html)or are they using the 2014 bracket structure? Because those two things are not the same.
6. Tethers may be eliminated for one robot piece under 20 lbs. This counts towards a team’s 130 lb allowance.
There are no rules regarding tethers. I'm assuming this to mean one <20lb. piece may be placed on the field outside of contact with the robot, and not be penalized for intentionally detaching components. However, please provide clarification as to how this impacts setting up in the beginning of the match. Can I place this component on the other side of the autonomous zone?
8. Mayhem Rule: Each alliance receives a “Stacks of Seven” coupon with their backup robot & timeout coupons. The alliance may use their Seven Stack Card at any point in the playoff tournament, allowing the alliance to score stacks of seven for additional points in that match only.
When do alliances have to declare they are using this coupon? When will the opposing alliance be informed that their opponents are using this coupon?

No loser bracket, 2014 structure.

However, please provide clarification as to how this impacts setting up in the beginning of the match. Can I place this component on the other side of the autonomous zone?
You may place an untethered, <20 lb. piece of robot anywhere inside your alliance's half of the field excluding the Landfill Zone, the Step, and the Auto Zone. For example: A team may place a 110 lb. robot piece in the Unnamed Zone and a 20 lb. robot piece in the Staging Zone as long as each piece follows all other existing rules and is within the guardrails and alliance walls.
When do alliances have to declare they are using this coupon? When will the opposing alliance be informed that their opponents are using this coupon?
If an alliance wishes to call a Mayhem Coupon, they must submit their coupon to the Head Referee within two (2) minutes of the field reset signal preceding their match. If there is no preceding match, the Mayhem Coupon must be submitted no later than two (2) minutes before the scheduled match time.
Additionally, the Blue Alliance is allowed to react with their own coupon for one (1) minute after the Red Alliance declares, even if outside the "legal" window. The Red Alliance, however, may not react with their own coupon unless it is within the "legal" window.
Are they double elimination (http://www.printyourbrackets.com/doubleelimination.html)or are they using the 2014 bracket structure? Because those two things are not the same.
When I first read the post, I was really excited for the return of a 1998 style double elimination bracket (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/22268)!

As cool as that would be, we apologize for the mis-naming. :)
Eric's clarification is correct.

Next year, MKM will be a two day event so we have time for double elimination. :P

Unfortunately I'll be missing MKM III.
Best of luck with everything and I hope to see a nice stream up online :)

I'm pumped to attend MidKnight Mayhem for the first time! (as well as my first event as a part of 5254 :) )
Will there be a webcast on TBA or elsewhere?
Will there be a webcast on TBA or elsewhere?
Unfortunately, no. Couldn't get it worked out with the school's facilities.
So excited for tomorrow! Big shout outs to our friends on 869 for helping us with setup this evening. Our team had some unfortunate circumstances today and a good number of our students couldn't make it for setup. They really saved us.
See you all at 8am. :)
No guarantees, but Team 1676 will hopefully be recording full-field match footage to be posted on our YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/team1676). Fingers crossed that the batteries last.

Well, we were able to get full-field footage of most of the qualification and elimination matches, and have uploaded them all here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPUJJPXRAlETCQpAVG_-XvX6DwRtaiYLU. Unfortunately, our camera battery died about halfway through alliance selections, and we weren't able to record opening or closing ceremonies. Enjoy.

Thanks, Ryan and 1676. Always much appreciated.
I think I still need a day or so to recover, but I really want to pop in here and thank everyone involved for making Mayhem as good as it could be for us this year. So many people stepped up to save the day for us in many ways, through some stumbles and upsets on the event side, and I need the chance to give them the credit they're due.
I will try my hardest not to get too feelsy, but 1923 lost a student (http://on.fb.me/1NjVcwi) early Friday morning. This event was really, really hard to get through for all of us. The support we got was absolutely unreal and is one of my favorite things about the FIRST community. Thank you.
First of all, 869 showed up Friday with a contingent of 20+ volunteers for setup. We'd planned this all along, as a bonding activity for our two teams - but not many MidKnight Inventors were up to the task that day. Didn't faze our friends at all, and I want to thank them so intensely for getting the venue together. We absolutely would not have had things together for our teams coming in that evening if not for PowerCord.
After learning about a hiccup with our pit power distribution, Jeff, George & Corey from 869 jumped right into action with a new gameplan and we made it work. Thank you guys for solving that problem - to Katie & my mom for running out to Lowe's at the last minute - and, of course, to our teams, for being respectful with their charging practices and not drawing too much power from their pitmates.
Our volunteers were excellent as always, coming from near & far to help out - 1923 students and parents as well as friends from other places. You guys rock.
More than anything, thank you to all who were present during the opening ceremonies as we honored Aditya. We're getting through this together, as a MidKnight Inventor family, and your support means the world.
As always, if anyone has event feedback please feel free to post it here or send to midknightmayhem@gmail.com - we value your input on making next year even better.
Tentative 2016 Date: June 25th. Hope we see you there!

225 had a great time at Midknight Mayhem. Every year, it is my favorite of all the MAR off-seasons we attend. It's super well run, and everyone is really friendly.
Big thanks to 1640 for picking us and 193 for rounding out the alliance! We almost pulled it out :).
A big congratulations to the winning alliance of 303, 316, and 3142 -- you guys all rock. Props to 316 for increasing their maximum can stack height for the off-season.
Looking forward to seeing 316, 1640, 1923, 2590, and 5254 again at IRI in three weeks!
