3309 is looking for someone who can help push our program to the next level!

Servite High School, a boys’ Catholic high school and home to award-winning FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 3309 and VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) Teams 3309A and 3309B, seeks an individual with an engineering background who is interested in working with a highly motivated group of students and mentors. This year-round robotics program has been growing since 2009. This part-time edit: full-time Director of Robotics and Engineering Instructor will provide additional stability and support for a program that has been supported by volunteer engineering mentors and a large group of involved parents. A background in mechanical engineering or aeronautical engineering or other engineering background and robotics experience is necessary. Previous involvement in FRC or VRC would be extremely beneficial.

If you are interested or know someone who might be, please send me a PM and I will provide the email address to send appropriate information (want to avoid posting an email publicly). Any general questions about the position or our team can go in this thread.

A few additional notes about us:

We're located in Anaheim, CA near the intersection of the 5 and 91 freeways
We have a core group of sponsors that have supported us since the beginning that provide laser cutting, machining, powder coating, welding as well as raw materials
We have a dedicated robotics workspace - a full house adjacent to the campus converted into a machine shop, meeting areas, and computer work space, all of which we can use 24/7
Our team is based at Servite but also includes students from our sister schools Rosary and Connelly as well as other local schools, so it's a co-ed team
We have a full-sized outdoor concrete area dedicated to a practice field
We have great food (no guarantees on bacon, corndogs, or cheesecake at this time)

I would be extremely happy working with 3309.

Very high caliber team right here. I don't think I qualify without an engineering degree, but I'll be sure to pass this on to a few people.

Thanks Ken!

We actually have a mentor now who was on 294 as a student in 2001. Small world.

I only wish I was fully qualified for this job. Had the priviledge of running with and against you guys at the AZ West Regional. You guys are a class act team and always have a great robot.

I have a couple questions:

-Is there a requirement for a number of years in the industry after college?
-Being a Catholic school, is there a religious requirement as well?

Very interesting position to say the least.

There are no firm requirements on either one.

Too bad it's only part-time... If it was full-time, I'd most likely be applying.

Kinda missed that, sadly same here.

Is there a reason why none of the many mentors your website has listed are getting the job? I would've thought that they would be prime candidates for the position.
I sent Mr. Brennan an email last night. I've been on the look out for a Catholic high school with a robotics program I could get involved with. Seems like an awesome oportunity.
How many students are there on the team?

I certainly wouldn't rule out any of our current mentors interviewing for this position. Granted many of them currently have full time jobs and this would be a major change for them as well. We're looking outside as well because we want the best person we can get wherever they may come from.

This year the team has around 40 students, 25 who are most active. The students in the engineering class(es) may or may not overlap completely with the students who participate in FRC and VEX, that remains to be seen.

What an awesome opportunity. Great team, great location, and their robot house is the coolest place to build robots I've seen in a long time

It really has been great for us, a few glimpses of the space in our Chairmans video (http://team3309.org/chairmans-2015) for anyone curious.
